God I loved MNC, and SMNC is still my highest played game, a decade out.
Deadlock doesn't have the life and pizzaz that either game had.

It definitly has a Catch 22, because I dont want to see a snap election, I think the conservitives have too much a chance of forming a government, and as rough as the Liberals can be, the conservitives would be far worse... but we can't have the NDP just being unwavering support for the Liberals.

Agreed. I'm hoping this is just a shot across the bow.

Defintly seems to be alluding to breaking the rail strike, which is a big deal.
I really worry this will result in a conservative government, however the Liberals cant take the NDP support for granted.

179 days after murdering someone and fleeing the scene. Talk about a slap on the wrist.
I dont think the driver desrves to be banished from Canada for this, which seems to be a prime factor in the sentencing:
Latimer also pointed out that while Feng has been in Canada for 20 years, as a permanent resident it is very likely she will be subject to a removal order to China once she completes her sentence.
The judge said a prison sentence of six months or more would cause Feng to lose her right to appeal such an order.

It doesn't need to have 1000km range, or edge to edge touch screens, or anything fancy
Give me something like a subaru impreza, with 300-400km range, and a sunroof.

wow... i cant imagine having my head halfway as far up myself as you do.
In the end, i think everyone here can see you for the liar you are, and your criticism of the system seems to boil down to "well, i dont use it, so lets make it worse for everyone else... proof that the USA spends more for worse service? I'll just call it fake and ignore it"
I hope all your friends know exactly who you are.

"here's all the way I've used the system" "well, you dummies have never used the system"
You really do love lying. Do i need to remind you of my post that you responded to? Lets see, the last time I used the system.... was 2 weeks ago, when I took my baby to the ER for an ear infection. That took 4 hours, which isn't great and has room for improvement, but... you know, they got the care they needed at 0 additional cost.

Just proves how out of touch you are with the Canadian healthcare system.
Now, I don't know why you make it your goal to criticize something you know nothing about, and then you go on to brag you know nothing about, and then you go on to call names and wish cancer when this is pointed out to you...
But hey, don't let the truth get in the way of your lies!

Wow. You really are a toxic asshole. Imagine being such an asshole you wish cancer on someone. Hope your parents see this post!
Lets see,
- My grandma got cancer, she got it treated and lived another 15 years.
- My wife's grandfather was found to have late stage throat cancer, he was admitted into a hospital within the day, where he opted for MAID instead of treatment, being 95 years old.
- My wife needed a C-section, and got it within hours.
- My american friend has had reoccuring melinoma, and has had it treated every time without cost.
- when my son was born, we had weekly house vists from a nurse to check in how he was doing, for two months, free of charge.
- my manager needed an emergency triple bypass, which they got, within 24 hours. and then 2 weeks of hospital stay, which they got.
And in all of that, you know what our biggest expense was? Food, and not for the patient, for the rest of us who was there supporting them
Yea, the american system is fucked.

yes, you are a liar, we already established that. One of my friends served in the american military for decades.. and yes, hes made it REALLY clear what he thinks of them now.

Thats on top of the the tax paid, for an average health care expense per capita of $12,555. Canada is at $6,319 per capita, aka half, despite offering universal health care.
IE: in the USA you pay more, get less.

Right, of course that's your go to. The fact that the tax paid by the average american for healthcare is higher than the Canadian, or that they keep pushing for a single payer is of course a globalist psy-op.
Or, you know, the american health care system sucks unless you are paying huge amounts for insurance...

Congratulations, under privatized/american style healthcare, you wouldn't have health insurance, would pay more tax to the government for said lack of healthcare, AND if anything happens, you will have to pay 10x more! WOO, worst of both worlds!

In 2002, Campbell’s Liberal government forecast operational spending of $25.6 billion. Horgan’s first budget forecast spending of $53.6 billion
Wait, the operational budget has increased in 20 years? say its not so! $25.6B in 2002 money is equivalent to $44.71B in 2024 money, so the increase is only $8.9B. Thats crazy good! Cudo's to the NDP

heyo, im trying to remember the name of a short story i read about three years ago online. A girl was sent by her bible thumping parents in to an... AI controlled prison. the AI explains how this is permanent, but they are studying humans. Its explained how the coffin sized room can simulate any situation, and over time she realizes that she can request drones be sent to real planets, and these drones can have humans forms. Each "prison cell" is either 1 cubic km, or 10 cubic km of support infrastructure to allow them to deliver the perfect VR experience. Managed to refine my search terms a bit, and by using "AI prison" instead of "vr prison" found it! https://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fiction/sacrids-pod/
Yea... buying a $35 "early access" title, to have a large amount of the content locked behind a pay wall... that kills any interest in the game for me. ""Assuming you play only regular matches and not solo (2 points per extract), and each round takes you 10 minutes to extract, and you NEVER DIE, it would take you ~30 hours to get 5 shards," sp00kyemperor calculated in a separate thread. "So if you're a god tier player that extracts every single time, it will still take you 30 hours to unlock one class.""
Anyone find the their e-reader struggles with the Secret Projects? The epubs have these massive, beautiful drawings which my (1 year old) e-reader struggles with every time i reach the end of the chapter, and then because they are so large they are overly zoomed in. i'm tempted to run them through something like Libre to see if i can compress the images down to something my ereader can handle.
Just ran into this. Its kinda scary with how good it sounds, its clearly Linus, with a new york accent.
The fact that this has been replicated is amazing!
My garage has an AC, which is never used (its so wasteful to heat and cool the room! prefer just to put on a fan) Thinking that if i install a unit like this, i can break this in to two separate 20 amps circuits for outlets, or use the AC if i feel the need. https://www.amazon.ca/Baomain-Universal.../dp/B08HWM7CMR/ Anyone do something similar?

I recently stumbled upon [this list of scifi based on Invasive Species](https://www.tor.com/2023/06/30/five-classic-sf-stories-about-invasive-species/), and one that caught my eye was "The Pollinators of Eden" by John Boyd. Unfortunately, finding a physical copy was a challenge, so I opted for the online version on [Open Library](https://openlibrary.org/books/OL5687483M/The_pollinators_of_Eden). Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Boyd's novel takes readers on a thought-provoking adventure that blends the essence of the 1960s with a futuristic setting in the year 225x. The retro-futurism aspect adds a fun and nostalgic touch to the narrative, creating an interesting backdrop for the story to unfold. However, one aspect that stands out is the unusual emphasis on sexuality throughout the book. The main character, Freda Caron, initially presents herself as a tight-laced, career-driven woman with an aversion to physical contact. However, her character undergoes a rather forced transformation, facilitated by the consumption of multiple martinis, leading to her becoming sexually liberated and even engaging in intimate encounters with an orchid, eventually giving birth to a large seed. This character growth feels contrived and lacks a genuine development, appearing more like a checkbox of sexual encounters rather than a meaningful exploration of her personal journey. The novel also introduces the intriguing theme of the end of the universe, and trying to allow some survival of humanity past this upcoming end, which could have been a fascinating story in its own right. However, it seems to be incorporated primarily to serve as a catalyst for Freda's unusual outcome of giving birth to a seedling, which is portrayed as a positive outcome. This aspect of the narrative feels somewhat forced and detracts from the potential depth that could have been explored in the exploration of the universe's demise. Overall, "The Pollinators of Eden" is an engaging read, particularly if you're seeking a short novel that transports you to a different era. It offers a blend of retro-futurism and thought-provoking ideas, even though the unusual focus on sexuality and the contrived character growth of Freda may be off-putting for some readers. If you're open to unconventional tales and can look past these quirks, you'll find enough intrigue and originality to make the journey worthwhile. If you want something which stands up better to the test of time, I recommend Green Patches by Asimov.
I found this article a gripping read. Can't imagine living in a community so controlled by a group that spreads hate
