Yeah, writing from 0.0.35, everything works fine.
0x4E4F 1 year ago • 100%
Yep, just installed 0.0.35, seems to work fine on most instances.

OK, I'll try it.
0x4E4F 1 year ago • 100%
No, currently there is no option like that in Lemmy, thus, no option in Jerboa as well.
0x4E4F 1 year ago • 42%
Don't. The new version doesn't work with the current versions of Lemmy. Instances need to update to the latest Lemmy version, then update the app.

Meeh, I don't really care one way or another. As long as the info gets out and to the people, I don't care much how it got out.
But, I'm a pirate since birth. I haven't paid for anything digital in my entire life (well... CDs, yes, but only because I respect the bands and just wanted to have the originals, cuz I'm also a collector, and thay was years after I alredy had pirated copies), so I'm used to finding my way around this digital playground and getting the info/data I need. This being said, I'm not really on one side or another, but I just love fucking with rich people, lol. So I decided, fuck it, let's give this thing a try. Turns out it's a lot better than I thought. Plus, quieter than reddit, not so much noise... which I kinda like to be honest, so... yeah, I'm sticking here. I do have my reddit accounts still active as well, but only because I need them, got some posts shared on the profiles which I would hate to get deleted. So yeah, I'll be here mostly, but also on reddit from time to time.

Step 4.6: Get another drive for the logs.

Lemmy still doesn't have that option, but I believe it's in the works.

Yeah, was about to say the same... $300 for a Pi, no way I'm paying that.
I would also suggest looking at some Pi clones on eBay/AliExpress, like BananaPi. They're fairly cheap for the performance they offer. Though, yes, having 8GB of RAM on a small thing like that costs a lot, no doubt there.

Nah, it'll just shift in the NSFW direction... basically, 90% of the content will be porn, OF promotions, etc. The other 10% will be random meme subs and subs like rellationship_advice/dating_advice, hookup subs, personal ads, etc.
Basically, what FB is today, but with porn.

Yes, mostly uneducated poor people. Educate them and they start acting more and more like the rich (not spend money on everything that falshes in the sun).

I understand that, but it seems that no one has taken an interest in pirating this 🤷. Things are what they are. If it's not something that is required by most acdemic courses out there (like let's say something from Tanenbaum), then the cahnces of you actually finding a pirated version of the book are slim.
0x4E4F 1 year ago • 100%
To be honest, that percentage was after deduping everything, so it could be due to dups being deduped. The first one (the MPEG2 one) was before deduping, so that should be valid.
zstd can go up to 15 on BTRFS, not higher.

This particlar book doesn't seem to be shared by anyone online. I guess you're just gonna have to pay for it 🤷.
0x4E4F 1 year ago • 100%
This only happens if the instance on which you're posting has defderated from your instace. So, you can see posts and comments on that instance, but people on that instance can't see posts or comments from your instance, includimg your own posts.
This is what asymetric defederation does.
0x4E4F 1 year ago • 76%
I don't think many people will actually find this funny cuz it's real life for a large portion of the population out there, especially the US.

Yeah, well, couldn't find an image of pillows being sqashed to a singularity.
Luckily, it's open to interpretation, lol.

It's a protocol that fediverse platforms, such as Lemmy, KBin, Mastodon and PeerTube use. Basically, it's how all of the different instances and platforms find one another in the fediverse, how they federate.
0x4E4F 1 year ago • 50%
And you're just naive.
If others follow their example, this place is gonna suck worse than reddit. Having freedom is good, but too much of it fucks things up.

Oh, come on, no one else has a problem with users on sh.itjust.works and lemmy.world, but beehaw does... just look at the moderation logs, there is nothing scary there, like a bunch of users from those 2 instances getting banned in bulk or something like that.
I still call BS regarding the reason. The wanna defederate, fine (even though it's not IMO, but for the sake of argument, let's say I'm OK with defederation in general). But don't think for 1 second that we're gonna believe that excuse you served us. It's obvious it's a lie. And that's fine too, but... really? The same things that happened on reddit happening here as well, I mean... that was not the reason we moved.
0x4E4F 1 year ago • 70%
That beats the whole point of having a fediverse, what good is it if everyone just defederates from everyone else. Basically, we're back to the forum thing once again.
I call BS. I think it was planned all along. Wait till a bunch of users migrate from reddit to beehaw, defederate and run our instance our way, i.e. we run a forum that has ActivityPub, that's it.

Depends where you live, regarding the VPN I mean. I've never used a VPN in my life, but, than again, I live in 3rd world country (kinda...). It's a P2P protocol, so if you block P2P on your firewall, yeah, in most cases, Soulseek gets blocked as well.
Regarding the download speed, they have like maybe 100, 200 users that carry most of the load, so they have to limit traffic per peer 🤷.
You have to define a shared folder/folders, that's how you share. So, share your music library and off you go. Sooner or later, you'll show up in search results and people will start downloading from you.

Void Linux + mdadm in RAID5 + BTRFS with snapshots enabled. Trust me, you won't regret it 😉. I have a working storage like this, but with 6 drives (scrap 2TB ones in RAID5) and BTRFS with zstd set at 10. Compression on MPEG2 content is... more than I ever hoped for to be honest, like 30, 40% compression. MPEG4, not as much, but you can shim about 5 to 10%.

Actually, naming Greenland was a false narrative by a viking that went out sailing in search of new lands, but he found Greenland (covered in ice of course), so he couldn't just go back home and tell everyone thay he failed or that he found this icy piece of land, so... he lied 🤷. And it worked, a lot of vikings came to Greenland, but because the trip to it was already exausting, they just didn't wanna leave to go back home, so they set up shop there. So... yeah, it kinda worked.

They were just making up excises to defederate if you ask me... cuz no one seems to mind most of the users either on this instance or another, but beehaw does 😒.

It's not litelarlly in my case, but still, I wish I lived in Norway, Sweeden, Finland, Denmark 😞.
I found this feature super handy on the official reddit app (I'm sure most other 3rd party aps also had it, haven't checked though). Some of us have multiple personalities, so we need to have several separate accounts. Not to mention it makes adding communities to our other accounts super easy.
It opens them in app 🥳. Now if only it had a drop down menu with a Download and a Copy Link option on long tap, that would be perfect 😁. I'm using it right now, seems to be stable, haven't ran into any trouble yet.
Basically, it shows that there are, let's say, 3 replies to your comment, and you tap on them to expand them, but nothing happens 🤷. Also, the link thing in Jerboa is not working properly. I tap on the link to lead me to the comment in question, sometimes it does lead me to the comment in question, but most of the time it just leads me to the post and I have to scroll down to find the comment in question.
