Semi-related to the post. Yes, today is Saturday. No, the collaborative team clinic is not open today. So why the hell did the lady book me in for today? Doors are locked. So I walked into the walk-in clinic next door and they look in their system and say there is NO appointment for me, at all! So I imagined it? Was I talking to a ghost? Maybe I mistakenly took some peyote without realizing it and hallucinated the whole thing? Hell, who needs statins anyway? If my next post makes even less sense then usual, I may have had a stroke. And to be clear, I am not laying an ounce of blame at the feet of the nurses, who remain in an untenable position. The whole staff is underfunded and overworked, and the linked article is a perfect example of the attitude that leads to this sort of situation.

What an embarrassment guys. So nice that you can line up three bedroom apartments for this lady, it must be nice to be able to call up a bunch of property owning developers and real estate moguls (aka St. John's city council) when someone gets on VOCM or CBC. These are the same people the feds recently called out for a lack of ambition on housing, right?

Join community members on October 15th at 2-5pm NT for the first ever St John’s Running Down the Walls fun 5k run/jog/walk/strut/roll. Bring $10 to participate or fundraise a minimum of $10. There will be water and snacks for all participants! Event starts at 2pm NT at the Corrections Wellness Garden, 89 Forest Road. The route takes us down past Dominion, along the near side of Quidi Vidi Lake, and back up through Quidi Vidi Village and along Forest Road to end at the same Corrections Wellness Garden. Social to follow from 5pm-8pm at the Benevolent Irish Society (30 Harvey Rd). Featuring pizza & snacks, and a cash bar. Let us know when if there is anything we can do to make participation more accessible for you. For example, we can help with bus fare, or if you need transportation between the run location and the social we can ask a volunteer to give you a ride. Email RunningDownTheWallsNL@gmail.com with questions or accessibility concerns. Running Down the Walls is an annual event held in cities across the US and Canada every year in September or October. It is a non-competitive 5k run/jog/walk/strut/roll that is used to raise awareness and funds for prisoners, especially political prisoners, across the continent. It involves people running simultaneously in many cities and in many prisons at once. Running together is actually a big component of Running Down the Walls. The solidarity shown across cities illustrates, through several small collective actions, that we have not forgotten those locked up inside. Runs inside of prisons happen to both help politicise other prisoners and to illustrate that our acts of solidarity outside have been heard. Half of the funds raised at the first ever St John’s Running Down the Walls event will go to the Anarchist Black Cross Federation (ABCF) Warchest Program. This money is used to assist prisoners, especially elder prisoners, who have little or no financial support by giving them a monthly check. $50 will go toward the NL based Prison Pen Pal Project, to cover the cost of postage and materials associated with writing letters to incarcerated community members. The remainder will go to the East Coast Prison Justice Society (ECJPS), a hub for prison justice advocacy on the East Coast of Canada. The ECJPS is a collaboration of individuals and organisations working to advance social justice through advocacy focused on the rights and interests of criminalised and imprisoned people. So bring $10 or fundraise even more than that, bring your most fabulous shoes, and join us on October 15th at 2pm NT to run/walk/roll together in solidarity with those who are caged and help us build advocacy for prisoners here in Newfoundland and Labrador. I thought Muskrat was supposed to help us shut down the Diesel plant. I'm appalled but not in the least bit surprised.

Luckily I have a couple of air purifiers. In Corner Brook, its raining which seems to help.
My family lived on the north shore of Trinity Bay since the 1600s. This 'Canada' stuff is pretty recent history, but it's painfully clear now that in 1949 when Canada said they'd manage our resources for the benefit of Newfoundlanders they didn't say which Newfoundlanders or how many.
It's great for keeping forest fires at bay, but I'm getting pretty sick of all this rain! I'm planning on some camping trips this summer, and I'm just hoping the weather is nice for those days. I just booked some provincial park campsites for week-long trip at the end of July, one park had just two sites left for the two days I'm planning to be there. I'll just have to eat the reservation/change fees if the weather ends up being horrible by then. You can't really leave it for the last minute and hope there is an available site, unfortunately.
