custom music playlists with local news

Everyone loves having their own music but it would be cool to also mix in local news and other current events, this what I was hoping the spotify would be but I doubt it be much better than now without someone else to copy off of

FOSS App Idea: A browser with Wireguard built in

I was basically thinking of a simple browser app for Android that automatically makes its requests over a Wireguard tunnel. I don't publicly expose a lot of my self hosted services, most are only available over a Wireguard VPN. I don't think my family could work that out, and I also don't usually keep it enabled all the time on my phone. It doesn't have to be a fully featured browser, I'm fine for it to be the built in Android WebView or something, and just have a configurable menu of pages that can be easily visited. I have some Android app experience from Uni, so I could maybe help out somewhat, but I feel I'm going to be in way over my head to do this alone. I'm happy to donate a little anyway.

The University of Utopia or the u of u for short

Hello my name is James but I go by Levin and I'm working on a project called the university of utopia, a social justice program and an app; see, we would create a smartphone where the main function is the university of utopia and its app. It would pay users to share their information with the world, the goal being to unify humanity and bring world peace and people would use the app to express themselves and explore the universe. Users would gain experience for learning skills and completing all sorts of tasks like playing video games, building houses, doing chores and sharing about themselves etc. This app would fill the void that society has left with its failing schools systems and lackluster justice systems by allowing criminals to use the device that houses the app in prisons and jails. There would be all sorts of content ranging from religious manifestos, to porn, to vlogs, to anything you can think of with the idea that nobody was wrong and we all had the space to express ourselves. We would work with some entity on this planet to issue and have connected to the app our IDs, social security cards, birth certificates and all that we need to identify ourselves (to help criminals mostly) while also paying a solid $19.50/hr for user interactions so people are paid to chase their dreams and live comfortable almost stress free lives while we explore the cosmos. I have more info on how the app would function and stuff but I need more minds in on this and for people to spread the word for us to get this going; would you like to join me?

A Google Calendar for art openings in NYC

New York has a great gallery scene, and every Thursday you can attend gallery openings. But finding out which galleries are hosting events can be a little archaic: The only sites that list openings are really old, and they don't offer any way to subscribe (say, via RSS). You know what would be great? A Google Calendar that's updated with all the best art gallery openings. For starters, it could source from these sites: - [ArtNet](https://www.artnet.com/events/new-york/gallery-openings/) - [NewYorkArtWorld](https://www.newyorkartworld.com/calendar/CurrentArtExhibitionsNow.html) - [ArtCards.CC](http://www.artcards.cc/) Can someone make this *please *so I can subscribe to it?

Webcam gaze mouse

Is there some kind of app that allows you to control the mouse position with your gaze/eyes? I have to count a lot of bugs for an experiment, and using the mouse is quite slow. We can't rely on ai (very difficult to distinguish). I did find [gazepointer](https://gazerecorder.com/gazepointer/), but it is Windows only and not that accurate.

A site that shows the video feeds from multiple news channels

Lots of news channels post their video feed online, for free, legally. Pulling up each feed is a pain, and I don't actually want to *watch* all of them: I just want to see, at a glance, what each network/channel/outlet is covering, so I can get a sense of what the big story of the day is. The feeds would all have to be on mute, obviously. Some video feeds that could be included: - [Al jazeera](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCNeDWCI0vo) - [ABC News (Australia)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOTiJkg1voo) - [DW News](https://www.dw.com/en/live-tv/channel-english) - [RT News](https://www.rt.com/on-air/) - [NBC News Now](https://www.nbcnews.com/now) - [Sky News](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Auq9mYxFEE) - [i24](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIhRRRx3VGc) - [PTV (Pakistan)](https://www.youtube.com/c/PTVNewsOfficial/live) - [NDTV](https://www.ndtv.com/video/live/channel/ndtv24x7) - [Press TV (Iran)](https://www.presstv.ir/Live) - [TRT World](https://www.trtworld.com/live-stream) And these are just streams that are posted legally. If anyone wanted to incorporate pirate streams, we could add a TON. **Alternately:** If displaying a ton of live feeds is too taxing on a processor, it could just show a collage of screenshots from each feed, updated every 60 seconds. That would be easier for processing, *and* it might sidestep any legal issues.

a FOSS app for merging photos together?

I know this sounds ridiculous, but AFAIK there is no way to merge two photos together on Android without using proprietary software filled with ads and trackers, or paying money. None! What do I mean by merge? I mean: Taking one photo/image, arranging it beside another image, and exporting them as one single image. I usually do this task on desktop, but a few times a year I have to do it on mobile, and the options there are so bad, it's shocking. Please, someone make a FOSS app for this!

A federated wayback machine

The idea would be to have a project similar to the famous wayback machine but decentralized and federated. People could host a personal instance to save or read web pages they want to save or read later. The big difference with a project like Wallabager for example is that they could also access web pages that other instances have saved.

A Lemmy web client like Reeddit

Lemmy's desktop experience can be a bit clunky. So was reddit's! For reddit, I would browse using the [reeddit app](https://reedditapp.com/). Could someone make a similar app for browsing Lemmy on desktop?

A p2p password manager app

A password manager like bitwarden but distributed that would work in p2p to synchronize the encrypted database. This way we don't need to install bitwarden on a server or use third party cloud applications (nextcloud) to synchronize the keepass database between our different devices

A shortcut to the android camera to take pictures with a lower resolution

It would be nice if we could create a shortcut to the android camera to take pictures with a lower resolution. I know I can go to the camera settings to change the settings but it's annoying because I often have to do this. To solve the problem I had to install a second camera on which I set a low resolution, it's more convenient if I just have to take a photo note or if I plan to send it by e-mail for example.

Platform to publish open stories

Something like webnovel for open source short stories, but the stories are each stored as git repositories. Each repo contains the metadata (title, license, authors, etc) and the story in markdown. You could maybe use a web frontend to add a git url to the frontend to publish your story. And readers can browse and read them using the frontend which renders the markdown. I have an example repo here: https://git.disroot.org/gitfiction/example I wanted to make something like that using django or flask, but not sure how to store and update the repos and use databases

Using the phone as a drawing device

I think it would be cool to be able to use the smartphone's gyroscope to draw on another monitor, a bit like a tablet stylus. And do some basic actions via simple gestures or keyboard keys. I don't know if this already exists. ![](https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/d51fd5f2-f94b-4d55-ac3b-cd5930f74f01.jpeg)

A graphical interface for Pelican (static site generator) https://blog.getpelican.com/

I really like static site generators like Pelican, Hugo etc... My problem is that you have to use it with command lines in a terminal and you have to remember the commands to use it which is not at all easy for a normal person, at least it's not easy for me, every time I forget the commands and so I don't use the tool. It would be great to have a kind of graphical interface to generate your blog on your computer, and then a big send button or synchronize with your FTP server to put the article online for example. Thus, almost anyone would be able to easily use these tools, which are so much simpler and lighter to deploy than a wordpress for example.

I have a whole section on my personal site for free ideas! robbie.antenesse.net

They're all video games right now, but I love them and would love to see them become a thing. I have a couple other ideas rattling around that I might add soon, but I'm holding on to them in case I suddenly get extra time and inspiration.

A tool to easily share an excerpt of podcast

Sometimes I listen to a podcast and want to share an excerpt of an interview, or a short passage with friends. Unfortunately, you have to do several long and tedious operations, download the podcast, cut it, host it somewhere and then share it. It's long and it discourages to do it. It would be great to have a tool to easily share an excerpt of podcast on the networks. You would just have to indicate the beginning and the end of the clip, then it would generate a link so that you can share it on social networks or blogs. I don't think it exists... at least I haven't found anything. Ideally the tool should not retrieve the original .mp3 file to edit it, cut it, save it on a cloud... what would be really great is that it would use the link to the original file and that it would simply be a player that would follow the "start" and "end" playback indications of the extract. So we wouldn't need to host large amounts of .mp3 on a cloud.

FOSS RTX Voice, one that doesn't require expensive hardware + libre licensed dataset

I know that the standalone RTX Voice application allows GTX cards to be used, but bear in mind it's only for GTX and RTX graphics cards. What about AMD graphics users? What of those that don't have RTX 5 Billion or AMD RX 8 Billion? The second thing that would be addressed in a hypothetical FOSS alternative would be the dataset the AI relies on. While it may not be useful for end-users, for developers this could be used for their respective projects, or maybe even a fork? Or maybe users could contribute to the dataset by recording random potentially unwanted noise? Idk, the possibilities may be considerable. [There is this project ](https://github.com/werman/noise-suppression-for-voice) though to be honest it's too much to take in at once for the uninitiated and time-constrained like me. What RTX Voice does right is it is simply one software and one separate virtual driver. Set the microphone you'd like to be suppressed and set RTX Voice as default. It's almost Plug n Play in a way.

An add-on that would detect links redirecting to paywalls

It's very annoying to click on a link that takes us to an article containing a paywall. Unfortunately we never know it in advance. We generate traffic for the sites, we expose ourselves to advertising and we can't read the article, it's a waste of time. It would be nice to have some kind of add-on for browsers that would detect if the links refer to a paid article, and that would warn us before clicking on it by adding via CSS a kind of small symbol in front of the link. For example: 🛑 https://link.tld We could imagine that when a user goes to a web page of an article that contains a paywall, he could click on a button of the add-on to report the article, and thus enrich a collectively built database.

Super Smash FOSS

An open source, smash style fighting game, it could use mascots from foss projects (just like [SuperTuxKart](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperTuxKart) do). Since there are some SSB knockoffs being released ([All-Star](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickelodeon_All-Star_Brawl), [MultiVersus](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MultiVersus)), why not make one that is actually good? I think it would be pretty cool :)

An application to read morse code by analyzing the live video or audio stream

It could be interesting to have an application that once launched would analyze the live video or audio of the smartphone and if it detects rhythms or variations (for example a flash that pulses • • • — — — • • • ), the application would translate it into text "SOS". The application would also have a writing mode where you could write and it would translate the text into flash pulses or audio sounds. We could communicate in the night without wifi, without bluetooth and without network ^^

A Sponsor Block service for Podcasts

I don't know if you already know the Sponsor Block add-on ( https://sponsor.ajay.app/ ) that allows users to tag the parts of a youtube video that contain sponsored content but also the self-promotional parts, the long useless introductions or the beginning and end credits. Then other users who watch these videos and who also have Sponsor Block will see their video player automatically skip the tagged parts of the video and this is sometimes a huge time saver ^^ Before I knew about this add-on, I had thought about something similar for podcasts, but it doesn't exist as far as I know. I had proposed a way out on AntennaPod's Github ( https://github.com/AntennaPod/AntennaPod/issues/3382 ) at the time but the developers told me that it was difficult and that they did not plan to create their own web service. Being a big consumer of podcasts for years and seeing the progressive arrival of ads I thought it might be a good idea to build a similar service.
