What do you think about the recent LW controversy?

Recent events over at lemmy.world have got me thinking, and I wanted to see what the community here are reddthat.com thinks. Most details are available at the lw admin team's latest [post](https://lemmy.world/post/19264848). TLDR A discussion about whether a vegan cat diet was viable started at c/vegan. An admin banned some comments and removed a moderator of the community. LW updated their TOS with a section about misinformation. The admin actions were reversed. (Probably, I am misrepresenting the situation, read the link before taking up arms) While, I prefer to enter my own opinions in a comment, I would like to add some questions to frame the discussion: 1. What do you the new section about misinformatiom? Do you think reddthat needs one? 2. What do you think about how the situation was handled by the LW admin team? 3. Given that LW is the biggest lemmy instance, how do you think these changes will influence smaller instances like reddthat? 4. Do you have any other take aways from this? Or any other questions? 4. (bonus) Isn't it hilarious that lemmy has its own tea (=gen z for drama)?

Put the fact this instance doesn't support down votes on the sign up page

What are you, inspired by YouTube? This is the dumbest shit I've seen in a hot minute. You wander through other communities/instances that support down votes but you see a deranged world. People downvoted to hell and back are right alongside good posts. It absolutely only elevates misinformation. Delete my account, it's useless without down votes.

Is it okay to post images to Reddthat directly, or is better to use an image hoster like catbox.moe?

Basically, title. I have no idea what is the best from a cost/performance/reliability perspective. I usually use catbox.moe, but got a few issues today, so I was thinking that having all of the content I post to one hoster might cause issue if they were to go down one day. What do you think?

A Reddthat Matrix room?

Hello everyone, Just something that crossed my mind: should we have a Reddthat matrix room? Could be useful to chat, and have a fallback place in case Reddthat encounter service disruption :)

Request: update mlmym on reddthat (from 0.0.41 to 0.0.44)

mlmym (the "old" interface) was updated on GitHub recently with changes that should fix the broken orangered notification envelope and the user profile sort order issues. @ticoombs -- when you have a chance, could you please look into updating mlmym on reddthat? Thank you!

Did darkly-pureblack theme suddenly become way less black, or am I going crazy?

It used to look, well, black, but now I'm seeing this, which is a bit hard to read... Did the theme change recently? I'd love to goback to my white-on-black look if possible...

How's everyone's weekend going?

Recently we have been smashing my internal goals for Reddthat. - ✅ Fix the beta issues plaguing the site - ✅ Fix the database issues for upgrading (oops) - ✅ Fix LemmyWorld federation - ✅ Finalise a new release for lemmy-ansible - ✅ Solid uptime & page speed loads (baring the unfortunate beta issue, which unless we had found would have made it into production for _everyone_) With all these stability changes now done, I am looking at ways in which we can improve Reddthat further and we are open to any ideas so please feel free to post away! I'm toying with ideas to use the local only community feature to provide a point of difference in the landscape of Lemmy servers. Weekly events? New communities? Either way I'm enjoying some coffee, drafting our monthly post to go into more details on the LW federation, and hopefully finding some time to enjoy some autumn sunshine! Cheers, Tiff

v0.19.4 - Beta Bugs & Fixes

As we are running the latest and greatest Beta currently. This post will be a list of all known bugs & fun things that we are dealing with. Please comment if you have a bug so we can help make the next Lemmy version. # Known Bugs - Video links are not embeddable when they have a thumbnail. Issue: [(UI-#2418)](https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/2418) - FIXED: Local and All pagination (Clicking Next) results in 25-30 seconds load times. Issue: [(Lemmy-#4618)](https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4618) - ~~Good News: This will be fixed [VERY SOON! PR: #4662](https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/4662/files)~~ - Federation with LemmyWorld - We have created a server in Amsterdam which is close enough to LemmyWorld where we can ingest all of the Activities, and then batch-send them to Reddthat. Currently it is performing very well. It is still early in testing but all signs point to solving our activity backlog issue! - Private messages are broken [#2439-ui](https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/2439)

Trouble logging in with jerboa

For the past 3 days I have trouble logging in reddthat using jerboa. I am able to log in to other accounts, including LW. Also, I am able to log in reddthat with the web app and Eternity. When I log in, I get a message `Illegal input field, public_key is required` (the full message is not visible). I am using a password manager so I am sure I am using the correct credentials. I have reinstalled jerboa and deleted all data. Anything I can try? Anyone else facing the same issue? Edit: I have tried every version from 0.60 to 0.65, some of them I have used successfully in the past.

Thanks to the admins for not enabling downvoting

Far too often, lately, I see lots of people worried about the number of downvotes, or making preliminary justifications and requests to not downvote particular posts. Me? I don't have to think about any of that. The content of the posts and comments determines their quality, not some artificial number that only represents whether people dis/like something. Edit: Wow, a lot of people from other instances seem really offended that I don't like downvoting and seem a bit confused that I'd be thanking my admins for something I appreciate. If you like downvoting, you don't have to move here. Enjoy your instance's features. Welcome to the Fediverse.

Under what SPECIFIC feature (in e.g. Firefox and Chrome) is this automatic obfuscation implemented when printing a PDF? And how to remove it from the file?

My only conclusion is is that some banks use some feature built in PDF Readers to prevent the printing of a PDF, by covering parts with black bars. The issue does not appear when using other software like Adobe Reader or Microsoft Edge, to print the PDF. Is this a form of DRM? I want to know how it works whatever is causing it, and be able to remove it from the PDF itself completely. Why does Firefox obey this DRM crap, while Edge has the balls to ignore it?

Hello everyone!

Hello, By randomly browsing a discussion on !fediverse@lemmy.world, I just realized I wanted to come back to the real use of downvotes (which was first a user-level moderation about spam, and actually shouldn't exist anymore as we now have the report button). So I'm back here on Reddthat, happy to use an instance without downvotes!

Storage full

[@ticoombs@reddthat.com](https://reddthat.com/u/ticoombs) I tried to upload an image, but got the error `IO error: Os { code: 28, kind: StorageFull, message: "No space left on device" }` I'm assuming it's a different storage area than the main database, otherwise this will fail too...

What is everyone's holiday plans?

Anyone going on a bender? Big new year's plans? Festivals? Going to 37C3? Or having a chill one? I'm probably going to do fun things like automating the deployment of new versions to our dev instance with automatic restore from the latest backup. Then I can get a better idea on what Lemmy is going to do on Prod. Yes that is what I classify as a good time 😅

What are the rules regarding bot communities?

I want to create a few communities, but two of them are bot communities with a high volume of posts, and I would interact with them only a couple of times a day. I would like to know what the rules are regarding bots and specifically bot communities. I made these communities on lemm.ee, but they [changed the rules](https://lemm.ee/post/2561997) to forbid this kind of communities later, so I'm asking first this time. The main reason the bot communities were forbidden in lemm.ee was that they caused too much noise on the local feed, and people complained about it. Here are the communities I'm planning to create: - **Polls**: A community for polls. I'm especially interested in creating the polls community here since it solves the problem of people downvoting answers when in polls you usually can't downvote. [Link to c/polls@lemmy.ml](https://lemmy.ml/c/polls?dataType=Post&page=1&sort=New) - **ShareGPT**: To share AI output I find interesting. [Link to c/sharegpt@lemmy.fmhy.ml](https://reddthat.com/c/sharegpt@lemmy.fmhy.ml?dataType=Post&page=1&sort=New) - **Lemmy Issues**: For moving issue discussion to Lemmy. Mainly a bot community. [Link to c/issue_tracker@lemm.ee](https://lemm.ee/c/issue_tracker?dataType=Post&page=1&sort=New) - **Zeitgeist Zone**: To post my YouTube feed and anything I want. Mostly a bot account. [Link to c/youtube_feed@lemm.ee](https://lemm.ee/c/youtube_feed?dataType=Post&page=1&sort=New) Can anyone provide information on the rules and guidelines for bot communities on Reddthat.com? I want to ensure that I'm following the platform's policies before creating these communities. Thanks in advance!
