Cars - For Car Enthusiasts
I love everything about this!
Sorry if this is not the right community for this. In the US. I currently have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The air suspension was awesome, but now that it's failing it's driving me crazy so I'm looking for something new. I haul wheelchairs and similarly- sized stuff for work so i need some cargo space. I'd love an SUV with second row captains seats and no third row. Does anyone make that? I'm leaning away from American cars, but can be swayed (my last two cars were Camaro and Jeep). I like things that look a little sporty with little/no chrome, a good amount of hp, and AWD is a plus. I usually drive 10-30 miles per day and get a $60/mo stipend- so about one tank of gas right now. I've browsed the websites for the new 4runner, Outback, Forester, Santa Fe, and a few others. Appreciate any ideas or opinions. ETA- 6 months ago the dealer wanted $9k to replace the air suspension, so i went to a small Goodyear shop for $6k instead. That shop was bought by brakes plus and they won't honor any warranty. Dropped it at the dealer for diag this morning. Just got a call - $4800. I was expecting $9k. Now I'm on the fix it/trade it fence.
Howdy folks, Thought I'd share a tool I use when buying or selling a used car. It's not the only tool to use but I think it's a useful data point. Plus I like looking at the charts and seeing how much our cars have depreciated. But I'm a data nerd, don't judge me too harshly!
Cool story about how Koenigsegg wanted to go racing but ran out of time before GT1 ended. I also like how it looks like Koenigsegg is explaining all this to his little brother lol.
Who would you say makes the most well rounded cars right now? By well rounded, i mean a consistent combination of style, reliability, features, and bang for your buck. [@cars](https://lemmy.world/c/cars)
Before I die of old age, I might eventually be brave enough to try something like this and stop paying people to do it. Probably not.
I love his explanations, and this engine is pretty cool. I look forward to seeing one on the streets someday.
I'm not sure how to cross post so I'm trying it this way. But yeah this is terrible...
There is a competition called the 24 hours of lemons, where the car has to cost $500 or less outside of safety equipment. Getting a car for that price is near impossible unless it's totally crashed out but when I was young $500 specials would run for years without much issue. Car costs are nuts these days.
Cars of this age just seem to look better with age. This one is particularly gorgeous to me.
I have an old v8 laying around that’s not very useful to me. Is there a company that sells conversion kits that replace the alternator and starter with an EV motor? I can’t seem to find one. Edit: like this: https://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/gm-engines/l8b/ Found one: https://m.roadkillcustoms.com/e-charger-bolt-on-electronic-supercharger/
Gorgeous vehicle that's very well done. My favorite part is that they kept the original shifter, that hits the nostalgia button for me! I can almost hear it shifting in my head right now.
My dad owned multiple Nova's as a kid. There were plenty with lifted rear ends and blowers sticking out of the hood. But ours you had to lean forward to get decent acceleration. I still loved the lines of those cars and this one is no different! Spectacular.
While touring a bunch of hilly neighbourhoods, driving up and down tiny, steep hills with sharp corners, this question popped into my mind. Which is better for this kind of driving, a hybrid or a smallish (e.g. 1.5L) turbo 4 cylinder? They both have low end torque, though the hybrid's torque may come on sooner. The hybrid also has regen braking that can reduce heat buildup in the brakes. The hybrid may be a bit heavier due to the battery and additional hardware. Would steep inclines put a strain on the turbo and reduce its life span? I know nothing about car mechanicals, so I really don't know if that's possible or not. The hybrid seems to make more sense. 🤷 Any thoughts?
This vane engine is sexy and it knows it.
97 years ago Bugatti was turning out supercharged sports cars... what? I just thought this was a car company that started in the 70s... The more you know.
Hope this is ok to ask here - apologies if not. tldr - my car has tire pressure senors, oil monitor sensor etc all controlled via in the car display system. If I had this changed with a non-oem aftermarket display, do I need to specifically look for one that supports vehicle status sensors? Or is it a matter of just connecting it all and the display will have that information? And will the built in controls still function? additional context - I have a Mini Cooper S 2020 F55 with what I believe is a BIS entertainment/in car system. I want to change it out for one that has carplay. When I look online, read any forums, they’re all discussing how to swap the BIS with an OEM mini headunit etc (NBT/EVO whatever). Replacing them looks incredibly expensive - nearing £1000 for everything. I want to retain all existing functionality - the vehicle status like oil and tire sensors etc. I have looked at the wireless carplay interrupt units which can add carplay without replacing the display/head unit **_however_** it doesn’t seem there is one available specifically for the BIS unit. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Thanks!
When I find myself at car shows I mostly just want to see the old rare sports cars like this. I dream of daily driving it, knowing my old man back won't be able to handle it. But I can dream right?
Set aside that Maseratis are unreliable, lose value about as fast if not faster than any other car brand, or their looks age poorly and look dated in less than a decade, or are way way out of my budget when they first come out, I still want the new ones every time I see them! And this one is no different.
I just want to see and hear it just once, and maybe drive the crap out of it on track until they demand their car back.
Ohhh yes! Look, I'm not an EV enthusiast but this car might change my mind. I love the way it looks from every angle. Just needs a trapper keeper background to complete the look.
When a safety car needs a safety car!
I had no idea this type of valve was a thing. Interesting to learn a little about. Maybe something like this would make electrically controlled variable timing more viable and thus improve the efficiency of ICEs?
AI driving real race cars, and just as much of a mess as you think it would be lol!
I've struggled with the rear end of the C8, it's just too busy on every trim. This rear end looks fantastic. I'm not sure about the rest yet but the rear end is an improvement to me.
Howdy, I finally took the time to make a one lap video with no identifiers of myself or other drivers. My lap time was 2:31, in the simulator I can get a 2:07 in the same car so I left a lot out on the track. In the sim there is no break fade and on track I could get 2 or 3 really hard breaking zones before I'd start to experience fade. My fastest lap on the day was a 2:19 mostly due to the break fade. I have good video of it but the audio is just wind, and the only laps I did with the GoPro on the rear of my car for good sound were pretty casual laps. So I took a casual lap and paired it with the audio. I'm going back in September for my last outing of the year most likely, then likely working on better breaks and cooling system as I could only get about 5 laps full out before I had heat soak issues and needed to pull into the cold pit to let the car cool off. Fantastic track, quite technical. I put about 150 laps in the simulator before I went out and I'm glad I did. While there is pretty much nothing to hit, a few off camber turns and a few late apex turns would have thrown me into the weeds otherwise.
That cold open though!
Until this video I'd never heard of a scotch yoke engine. I know this is car enthusiast not engine enthusiast or engineering enthusiast so I'm not sure if anyone else will like this. But I sure do!
This is plated and street legal, can you imagine seeing it in traffic? ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/dce50c8e-917e-4183-a8df-cfcf73be5544.jpeg) First time I've seen an atom in person. They are supposed to be an absolute riot on the track! ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d980dc3d-72a1-40bd-bb59-d623c6e223e8.jpeg) They're both gorgeous! I would have loved to hear them rev the engines just once.
As a former owner of a 370Z I want this car to be better. It looks the part, but it's performance at that price just doesn't make sense to me. For this price I can get a used C7 Z06 (with not so desirable milage) which will be a lot more fun and based on my ownership of the 370Z, more reliable too.
I'm not a big Jag fan mind you but another company moving away from ICE all together is interesting. I believe Audi cancelled the R8 in favor of an EV version and the next Dodge Charger Hellcat supposedly will be an EV as well. My wife's EV is pretty nice, but so far every EV I've driven has been discovered from the road. Like a moving couch instead of a driving experience. Hopefully we'll get some real enthusiast grade sports cards out of this. What do y'all think?
222 HP per liter in this beast. For comparison the C8 ZR1 is about 194 HP per liter.
I might actually drive a left hand drive version of this as a daily. Maybe the A110S or GT instead?
