Welcome to /c/brandonsanderson!

*Please note: Lemmy is still alpha technology and is under current development* ## Welcome to Lemmy! We have two communities for Sanderson on Lemmy: /c/cosmere and /c/brandonsanderson. [/c/cosmere](https://sffa.community/c/cosmere) will be for cosmere books discussion, [/c/brandonsanderson](https://sffa.community/c/brandonsanderson) will be for more general purpose Sanderson discussion. You can also check out related science fiction/fantasy communities in partnership with SFFA (science fiction fantasy alliance) by clicking the Communities button in the top left. Lemmy mostly works like reddit. Here are a few key differences to be aware of. ### Spoiler tagging in posts/comments Spoiler markup on Lemmy works like this: `::: spoiler` Book Name/Spoiler Scope text here `:::` That becomes the following, with the spoiled text collapsed, and the book name displayed to warn people what it’s a spoiler for. ::: spoiler Book Name/Spoiler Scope text here ::: This is important to note because *all* spoilery posts and comments must be under spoiler formatting until we have spoiler toggle ability to blur posts. ### Making an account You can browse the communities without an account, however, if you want to post/comment, you will have to create your account, then verify the email of that account, before you can log into it. Please be aware that the verification email often goes to the spam/junk folder so you may need to check there for it. Please also be aware that the site does not *notify* you that it has sent the email and that you may see an endlessly spinning loading icon — in that case, you should assume the mail was sent and check for it. This email verification issue has been addressed by our dev team and hopefully it resolves within the next 48 hours (it is currently July 4, Xpm PST). We are monitoring this issue closely. ### Tagging posts Our devs are still working on post flairs, so for now we ask that all posters include a tag in their post title indicating the spoiler scope. It’s as simple as adding [Book Name] to the beginning of your post title. For example: [Mistborn: TFE] So how about that one fight [Oathbringer] What do you think about that Sanderlanche? [Warbreaker Ch 4] Can someone help me understand___? [No Spoilers] Latest progress update ### Removed Posts Currently, when a post is removed, it will no longer show up in your profile. *We will copy the link to the post and send it to you with a message of what needs to be edited/changed*. If the issue is something you can correct, make the change and then *respond to our message and include your post link*, and we can restore it. Note that, unlike Reddit, post titles and links can be edited after posting! ### Removed Comments Currently, when a comment is removed, Lemmy will *delete its contents* (rather than simply marking the comment not displayable). As a result, when we remove comments for spoilers, we will *copy the content of the comment into our message to you*, along with a link to the comment. You can follow the link, make any necessary changes (note your changes will not *display* after you save), and then *message us back (with a link to the comment)* and we will restore it. ### Mobile Apps There are a number of third-party mobile apps available for Lemmy, including Jerboa (Android) (Currently not compatible with our instance due to version changes), Liftoff (iOS & Android), Connect (Android), Memmy (iOS) and more. Please be aware that spoiler formatting DOES NOT WORK on mobile apps at this time. Mobile apps are all in alpha and beta stages and currently do not support the spoiler markdown. Use mobile apps at your own risk. The mobile website is functional and we recommend using that if spoilers are a concern. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to comment below or post for help over at [SFFA Meta](https://sffa.community/c/meta).

[No Spoilers] Publicly-Accessible Unpublished Novels

Note: Arcanum has [a good list of all readings Brandon's done](https://wob.coppermind.net/help/readings), and the 17th Shard has [a good list of all samples of any of his works](https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/90860-verified-locations-for-unpublished-content-sample-chapters-and-published-short-fiction/), so check them out if that's what you're after! The scope of this post is slightly different than either of those, as its goal is to be a list of all Brandon's *unpublished* books specifically without other things distracting from that aim (and admittedly also to give this instance some starter content :P). ## Full Books These are early works (mostly) from before Brandon got published that are available in their entirety. - *The Way of Kings Prime*: Full novel with [prose download](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/the-way-of-kings-prime/), [audio download](https://www.dragonsteelbooks.com/products/the-way-of-kings-prime-audiobook), and [audio streaming](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSH_xM-KC3ZtEPWXfCtiIo9NqT7DQKAnj) options. - *Mistborn Prime*: Full novel you can request through [Brandon's contact form](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/contact/). Fill it out and his team will email you a copy (can take a couple weeks depending on load). - *The Aether of Night*: Full novel you can request from [this 17th Shard thread](https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/60219-aether-of-night-manuscript-requests/). Leave a comment and the fine folks over there will DM you a copy (can take a couple weeks depending on load). - *Mythwalker* (*Warbreaker Prime*): Unfinished novel [posted to Brandon's blog](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/warbreaker-prime-mythwalker-prologue/). - *The Traveler*: Short story [read aloud in its entirety](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/332/#e9518). (The only one on this sub-list written after he was published.) - *Centrifugal*: Short story [posted to Brandon's blog](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/Centrifugal/). ## Samples of "Prime-era" Books These are early works from before Brandon got published that are available in bits and pieces only. - *Dragonsteel Prime*: - [Chapter 1](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/455/#e14606) - [Start of Chapter 14](https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/96009-dragonsteel-prime-page-from-the-new-years-live-stream/) - [Bridge Four sequence](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/dragonsteel-prime-chapter-25-bridge-four-1/) (Chapters 25, 28, 30, 31, 33, 35, & 37) - Technically the full novel can be found at Brigham Young University's library, but practically speaking most people can't just pop over there even if they do allow non-students to come in. - *The Liar of Partinel*: - [Chapters 1-6](https://web.archive.org/web/20180531074250*/http://www.brandonsanderson.com/drafts/warbreaker/LiarPt12.doc) - [Reading from midway through](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/448/#e14409) - [Chapter 1 rewrite](https://web.archive.org/web/20201112013535*/http://brandonsanderson.com/drafts/warbreaker/LiarCh1v3.doc) - [Discarded revision to part of Chapter 2 (Theusa scene)](https://twg.17thshard.com/index.php?topic=5165.msg111911) - [Discarded revision to part of Chapter 6](https://twg.17thshard.com/index.php?topic=5165.msg111268#msg111268) - *The Final Empire Prime*: - [Chapter 1 (Conqueror scene)](https://web.archive.org/web/20180531081801*/http://brandonsanderson.com/drafts/warbreaker/FinalEmpirePrime-Ch1.doc) - [Chapter 1 (Vin scene)](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/final-empire-prime-vin-scene/) - *The Sixth Incarnation of Pandora*: - [Prologue and Chapter 1](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/448/#e14437) ## Samples of Upcoming/Potential Books These are samples written after Brandon got published that have not themselves made it into any book as of yet. Most were simply individual test scenes, although a few have full stories attached that nonetheless haven't been released for a variety of reasons. † marks works currently planned as part of the Cosmere. - *Sixth of the Dusk* sequel†: - [Opening](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/448/#e14408) - *Kingmaker*†: - [Prologue and Chapter 1](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/479/#e15153) - *The Silence Divine*†: - [Chapter 1 excerpt](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/201/#e12303) - *The Apocalypse Guard*: - [Chapter 1](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/127/#e12311) - [Excerpt (unclear how far into the book)](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/355/#e10510) - [Chapter 1 rewrite](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/412/#e13890) - *Adamant*: - [Chapter 1 excerpt](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/101/#e12305) - *I Hate Dragons*: - [Original short story](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/i-hate-dragons/) - [Chapters 1, 2, & 4](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/i-hate-dragons-extended-version/) - [Chapter 5](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/448/#e14438) ## Full Drafts of Published Works While Brandon does readings of a chapter or two for a lot of books, there are a few whose full rough drafts have been made available. - *White Sand*: Original prose that adapted into the graphic novel. You can get it by [signing up for Brandon's newsletter](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/#footer); once you confirm your email it will send you the latest edition, which includes the download link. - *Warbreaker*: For this book, Brandon experimented with releasing each draft as he wrote it. You can find a list of all versions [on his website](https://www.brandonsanderson.com/warbreaker-rights-and-downloads/#versions).

Secret Project now availablr on Kindle and Audible

Good ol BrandoSando has screwed the community again. First, he announces the secret project and promises us new stories. Then, he "boycotts" amazon with JUST THESE COMMUNITY FUNDED STORIES. Now, he's making money on books we bought without letting us utilize the accessibility features we've come to expect from his other work unless we pay him again. Tl;Dr Brandon Sanderson is an exploitative greed monster that swallowed 43 million dollars and is hungry for more. Do not buy Brandon Sanderson products until this betrayal is addressed.

:: Spoiler discussion on DragonSteel Prime and also Way Of Kings Prime

Has anyone read thoroughly DragonSteel and WayOfKings both as Prime-versions as well as the normal canonical versions? ::: spoiler spoiler Spoiler WayOfKings Prime seems to be better than DragonSteel Prime. I found DragonSteel Prime kind of not a very good or even cohesive storyline compared to the WayOfKings Prime. WayOfKings-Prime reads almost like if someone tried to "Hollywood"-ify BrandoSando's WoK without really reading anything about Cosmere. But DragonSteel-Prime reads like some crazy drunk person tried to combine Pug/Magician and BelGarion/Belgariad(David Eddings ) and some more fantasy settings. I want more of these stories, the first drafts and the final editions ! It is very very fascinating how each story got revised, cut, re-written, re-arranged, etc. :::

oh look. im so glad the $43 million dollar secret project the fans funded will now spawn AI generated garbage while still not being available on audible. isnt that just the greatest? /s storyfair.net

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/12029451 > Spotify just changed their TOS, giving them unprecedented rights to create "derivative works" from audiobooks > > They frame it as though it's for user content, more likely it's to train AI, but in fact it gives them the right to do almost anything they want - up to (but not including) stealing the content outright.

Cosmere bibliography by series?

Is there such a thing as a list of the Cosmere books by series? Everything I’ve found so far either lists them book by book, with pictures and other bumf, or is just a chronological B list with all the non-Cosmere books jumbled in. Essentially, I like to compile a bullet-pointed list in my notes app for my favourite authors and for a universe as complex as this, I’d like to have all the Mistborn listed under one subheading, Stormlight under another, etc, etc. I’m a bit anal about these things, and I like to be able to check them off and know I’ve got them all. I’m sure it’s out there somewhere, just itching for me to come along and copy and paste it! Thanks in advance
