Recently did this and yes it's a pain. I don't know if it's going to help until next time we change phones, but what I did this time was name the device after the person, rather than the phone model.
The idea being that I can delete the old device in the future and replace it with the new device, named the same. That way I don't have to change the device name in each automation every time. Hopefully that made sense. But I still haven't tested it in reality.

If you want something short and easy, try Elder Race. It's a novella, but very well done. The good thing about him is that he's so prolific, there's a lot to choose from.

All you're gonna find here is blind defence of Sync. I used it for Reddit and it was amazing, but honestly, the Lemmy app isn't worth it. Voyager is great if you're looking for an alternative. It's free and it's maintained with updates almost every week.
yesterdayshero 8 months ago • 83%
The point is that method doesn't work for the feediverse where things are constantly updating. It's ok to expect that an app is maintained, especially when asking that high a price. I don't get all the blind defence people have for Sync. It's a highly priced app for a platform that's entirely free and there hasn't been an update or peep for months. It's ok to question it. People would be for any other app.
yesterdayshero 8 months ago • 100%
Exactly, it was a crappy stop gap solution.
yesterdayshero 8 months ago • 76%
Honestly, you should cut your losses and just move onto another app. You can always see if an update comes in the future, but for now there are plenty of good free options that are being maintained.

I really hope they don't introduce a challenge system. It might suit some of the American sports, but would be another step in the wrong direction for VAR in football (soccer). It already takes long enough to make a decision at times. Imagine after all that, the decision is challenged.

So a game could release an "update" with less content and charge for it, and that would be ok to call a DLC, because they charged for it?

Yet they still get around it through sound mixing. Any regulations against using jingles or having ads interrupt what you're watching?

I hardly watch it either. Just found it funny all the complaints above could be applied to what free to air tv has been doing for decades.

Yeah I still use their temp sensors and they seem to work fine. The door/window sensors seem to work ok too, but for the most part I've just swapped over to Aqara for anything new I've bought.
yesterdayshero 11 months ago • 100%
Yeah I gave up with them and went with Aqara ones. I just gradually replaced all the Sonoff motion sensors.
The Hue motion sensors are great, but quite expensive. I've found the Aqara ones to be best value for money. Haven't had many issues with them.

Yeah I have been. But have a mix of apex and mini graph. Was going to migrate them all to apex and noticed it hasn't been updated in years. Didn't want to migrate everything and then have it stop working in a future home assistant update. Could be worrying about nothing though.
The only other thing I've noticed is that it's quite power hungry compared to mini graph, albeit it having more functionality.
yesterdayshero 12 months ago • 100%
I don't know, I haven't used Grafana.
Does anyone know whether apexcharts cards is going to be supported moving forward. Doesn't appear to have been any updates in some time. Trying to work out whether it's best to just stick to mini graph cards instead.

I had the same thing. It seemed to be a couple times spread throughout the week and it hasn't happened in about two weeks.
At the time opening the wallet app seemed to make it work. But not sure what was causing it all of a sudden.
The only thing I could think is that I may have been using battery saver at the time, or at some point that day. Do you know if you had been?

I'm sure there used to be a way to remove spoilers from Sport notifications that Google sends. I can't seem to find any settings for it anymore, other than turning them off altogether. Anyone know if you can still turn off spoilers from Sports notifications?

Are you trying to get 5.1 to play out of a soundbar? From what I briefly saw on the Bose 600, it's supposed to be able to upsample from 2.0 source with "truespace". Is that not working?
It sounds like maybe there's something happening between the ARC connection of what's going from the PS5 to your TV and then out to your soundbar. Maybe there's a TV audio setting that might help.
Also, apologies but I couldn't see the link, but I assume the Blu rays are in 5.1? I had a look on Amazon locally and the ones I saw were 2.0.

It's not a walled garden, it's kind of the opposite. You can connect devices regardless of brand and it's a server you can run locally. In theory you wouldn't need to update it or ever connect it to the internet again, as long as your devices can run locally.
If you have an old laptop or a raspberry pi 4, you can always give it a try before scrapping what you're currently using.

The Culture series by Iain M. Banks.
Not sure what it was. Maybe expectations were too high. Tried the first two books and they were fine, just didn't really trigger anything in me that made me want to keep going.

Mine has an integration which is handy (enphase). But it doesn't tell me my grid usage. I'm trying to calculate it by taking my total consumption and subtracting my solar production. I think it roughly gives me the right overall number.
The problem is I can't seem to get how much I'm feeding back into the grid. I might be able to work it out with some sort of calculation.
I might DM you about the P1, as it sounds like that might do the job.
yesterdayshero 1 year ago • 100%
Nice one. My system has that with its integration which is good. I'm yet to put it into a graph. The part missing from mine is working out how much I'm using from the grid.
I recently got solar installed at my place and was wondering if anyone had tips on things like: - Using the Energy dashboard effectively - Template Sensors I should set up for energy tracking - Graphs or visualising production/usage in dashboards - Automations that you've used to help save using energy from the grid

Voyager. I've tried a couple others but keep coming back to it.
Yeah with the cost of Sync. I don't think it's right. This isn't Reddit. I've donated money to support a local instance and I'll donate to Voyager as well. I'm for supporting developers. But this is an ad free platform, so it feels wrong to pay so much for an app that adds ads to it.

Yeah there's definitely a bit of a circle jerk happening with Sync. People proclaiming it was the best Lemmy app ever, while up until a few days ago you couldn't even submit a post.
Edit: realised I even got downvoted for pointing out Sync doesn't have that functionality. How ironic that the only reason I can see that is because I'm not using Sync haha

I'm making my way through new game plus and thought I'd try collect some of the weapons and items I missed first time around. Warrior Jar Shard is one I'm not too proud of collecting.

Where did Microsoft or Larian say that was an option? Where did Microsoft say that they would be happy to have features cut from the X to keep parity with the S?
I pointed out how poor a business decision this would be if Microsoft would allow it. It ruins their offering for the Series X. How can it compete with the PS5 if they start allowing developers to drop features from Xbox games? The entire point of the article is that Microsoft has boxed themselves into this corner. And your suggestion isn't a good solution.

It's literally in the title...
Microsoft’s Xbox Series S Parity Demands
And in the article...
While there would be some variance in technical capabilities between consoles, feature parity between the two would remain the same. It would remain the same because Microsoft would demand it remain the same, from both its own studios and third parties.
yesterdayshero 1 year ago • 62%
Hey guys, you should get a Series X because BG3 is coming out. Sure it will be missing features that you'll get on the PS5 like split screen, but you guys understand we need to support the Series S and have parity between our two consoles.
So even though you spent more money on a Series X, that's capable of running the full game that the PS5 is getting, you should just be happy that you're getting the game at all. Don't worry about having paid for a console that's capable of more.
-Microsoft
I'm not sure Microsoft did this generation of consoles any favours by launching the Series S.

Can someone point out what the major differences are (or does this exist somewhere already)? I've been on Android for years now and don't really understand what made Voyager too iOS. The only real differences I see are fonts and they currently look better/cleaner on the iOS version. Are there functional differences between the two? Or is it really just font and spacing?
I just bought a mini PC to use as a Plex Server and realised that maybe it's a good way to host my Home Assistant instance as well. Currently HA is on a raspberry pi 4. What's the best approach to get both running on a mini PC? And is it even the best approach or should I just leave HA the way it is now? Interested in seeing the Aqara devices using Matter. It's a shame the button is only functional if you use their new hub, but wonder if you'll be able to use it through Home Assistant.
I'm at the point in the game where I can get the Shura ending. I doubt I'll end up doing another playthrough. Not because I haven't enjoyed the game, but it's just not something I tend to do. If you were to only do one ending in Sekiro, which would you go for?

Any ideas why I might be getting this error sporadically on the Android app (Pixel 6 Pro)? I'm running the latest app version and HA is at 2023.6.1. The app had been running amazing lately until the 2023.6 updates. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d470ef2b-150b-4f3b-80f8-021192b45607.png)
