Ah right, makes more sense. I know nothing about how this works, I think I saw someone saying something like this in one of the other threads. Thanks for clarifying.

You should enable "Include pre releases" option after pasting the link and before trying to install it. I think since the app version is still below 1.0, its considered a pre release somehow.

Action launcher (paid version) is my go to, some features I love about it:
-
Allow for a desktop grid of up to 12*12, which I havent seen on any other launchers I have tried, I believe Nova had something similar, but not sure to this degree.
-
The brilliant folder icon being the shortcut to the app which was the first app to have been put in it feature. You can later shuffle the app around to change it, of course. You swipe down on the folder icon to reveal the items inside like usual, but if you just tap on it, the app which is first in the list opens up, a very good time saver in my opinion.
-
Widget stack is a cool feature also, where you can add similarly sized widgets to a single block of space on which you can scroll through to see the information as it suits you.
-
Customization level is very high, you can have a dock, a drawer, and also a quick drawer which is a vertical list of apps, and all of these simultaneously too.
-
A high level of gesture support. My phone just got an update where I have to swipe down from different sides to see notifications and quick settings, which are not changeable by default. With the action launcher settings I have sort of found a work around.
It allows me to have a minimal looking desktop with a lot of functionality and a high degree of customisation, very much worth the price.

I agree, I was very excited about a foundation show being made, being a fan of the entire timeline Asimov created. But I gave up early in the show, especially after seeing how overdramatic every character was behaving and how R.Daneels identity was revealed without any preamble as to what role he had played in shaping the destiny of the entire human race. What you mentioned about how individuals becoming lynchpins in history was also a betrayal to what Asimov was trying to portray with his invention of psychohistory is spot on as well. I dont know how it turned out over all, but seems like its a hit and people like it. But the spirit of that whole universe Asimov created, was absent from the beginning of the show itself, and it was disappointing to see.

Thats was super helpful information, even though some of it towards the end was a bit hard to comprehend, for me, I mean. But I have some relevant keywords to search and find out more about, haha, so its all good. Ill do some reading up on how to set up sdwan services like you mentioned, and also about dynamic dns. From the general consensus, air VPN is the popular choice, so ill look into signing up with them soon. Thank you very much!
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
Thats really helpful, I think I am going to try this out. The whole VPN and port forwarding feature I was curious about happened because my ISP doesnt allow port forwarding and I was unable to set it up for sharing my jellyfin. I will try to read the link you shared and try what I can do! Thanks a lot!
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
I dont really need the use of multiple ports simultaneously. Im ashamed to say it, but I do not do that much seeding, I use mostly public websites with public trackers. So its not really for the torrenting aspect I was curious about port forwarding about. As I mentioned in my post, it was when I was trying to see whether I can set up a jellyfin service for people I know to access my music that I found my ports cannot be opened. So it was with regard to that my post was initially about. Anyways, thanks for your input.
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
As I understand it, port forwarding is very much needed for torrenting when you're seeding. But in my case, I was curious about using a service like jellyfin for sharing my media to people I know over internet, a service which does require open ports.

That is what I wasnt able to wrap my head around, thank you for clarifying it for me. I will look through the posts and decide which one suits my needs and I can afford. Thank you again for your answer, and the links!

Edit: I use port forwarding for bittorrent and it was easy to set up. You log in on their website and choose a port to forward for your account. I’m honestly a novice at networking and I figured it out using these instructions.
Do you know what the ISP port forwarding status is, in your case, or is that irrelevant to setting it up?
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
That is something I would like to look into in the future, but since you are knowledgeable with regards to VPS, can I ask you why the RAM figures are more important than the storage figures, in the few services I checked out, and the example you gave, the RAM value is what is prominently mentioned, if the purpose is to store media and such, doesnt the storage capacity take precedence, like in a seedbox?
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
I do not have a defined purpose exactly. What felt appealing to me about having something like port forwarding with a VPN subscription, it would mean I can avail it wherever I physically am, and without having to give any consideration to whether my ISP at the moment allows me to or not, since my living situation is a bit fluid and I move around a bit. If I am able to avail it, wouldnt I be able to avail some self hosted services, like jellyfin, regardless of where I am, and be able to share with friends and family.

thanks, made a cross post there!
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/969323 I am looking to buy a VPN subscription, and im interested in getting one that allows port forwarding. Found a few that still allows this, including pure VPN and air VPN which seem to offer good value for money, at least on the the long term plans. Any feedback on these two? I used to have nordvpn, and used it for 3 years, and once that subscription ran out, have been using mullvad so far. Performance wise mullvad hasnt disappointed me or anything, but now im looking to find one that allows port forwarding. I also have a doubt regarding the whole port forwarding thing, does the VPN having this feature enable to do it even if my ISP doesnt allow port forwarding? From the videos and articles I read, VPN port forwarding is just something you do inside their native apps and such, so if the ISP hasnt enabled port forwarding for me (which I know it hasnt, because tried to get jellyfin working the other day, and couldnt get the ports to open even after setting everything up in my router), will I still be able to do it? I tried searching around with this query, but didnt really find anything.

Oh is that so, I didnt try tailscale yet. When I tried to figure out what to do with zerotier, not sure what I was planning to use it for then, it felt like I am in over my head a little bit. Is tailscale somewhat straightforward to set up/learn?

Thank you for the additional information, I am not in the US, and would not most likely be using their US servers. Web hosting services blocking the traffic seems concerning though, isnt GoDaddy one of the big player?
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
That seems something I would like to stand behind then, thanks!

So, do you mean getting a subscription for a static IP from the ISP? Yeah that would be a solution indeed, but I am not staying where I am currently for an extended period, so maybe it isnt ideal for me. That was what felt appealing to me about having something like this with a VPN subscription, it would mean I can avail it wherever I physically am, and without having to give any consideration to whether my ISP at the moment allows me to or not.

Yeah, Zerotier was something I did come across a while ago, I will try to learn how to setup my jellyfin in combination with something like that. Thanks for your help.

To be frank, I dont have any particular need for a VPN other than torrenting and bypassing geographical restriction in a general way. The jellyfin experiment was to just be able to share my media across the web, so that people I know can access my media, music, mostly. Even the selection of a VPN isnt that urgent as I have a shared seedbox with seedbox.eu so that I can download torrents safely. Since I have been using a VPN for some years now, I thought id keep one handy, and when I was reading up about port forwarding, I thought maybe that could be useful, for jellyfin and such.
My doubt arose from these VPN services proclaiming they allow port forwarding, and knowing my ISP has disabled it, I was curious whether that will affect my ability to avail port forwarding via the VPN service.

Dont know if you'll like what you will see if you decide to try it again, as another users famous comment stated, "enshittification spares no one" is at full play in two dots also. Although the devs do pump up updates regularly and add more and more levels. Just be prepared for an experience different from how it was a few years ago, if you are returning after a long interval!

Copying a response I made to a similar comment:
I, too was not able to reproduce the same result again.
When I tried to do the same search again, I had one column more dedicated to non ad space, namely, showing the description of the game. Dont know how I got that particular spread of ads galore at that particular moment.
Screenshot taken later with the same query:
My version of android is, indeed, an older one, and my region is India, I suppose all these factor into what I see when I search for stuff.

Might be, I have reduced the number of ad columns by one, with this latest screenshot. Not getting the same result as you. Then again, that could be because my android version is older and such.

Theres a fork of f-droid with a slightly friendlier UI, called foxy droid, if you want to give it a shot!
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
I hope for your sake that they at least stick to that. The google approach seems to be that they are too big to fail and that they can keep doing what they want, and what they want, apparently is more space for ads!
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
Yeah precisely what I went through also, I have f-droid, Aurora store, even obtainium for those apps you usually get updates directly on their GitHub pages, going back to the Playstore has been a eye opener.
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
Whats the ad situation on app store, do they aggressively push stuff into your throats there as well?
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
I try to avoid using the official app as much as possible, usually manage with Aurora store, thats why it stood out to me how bad it has become of late when I just went to update my game. Not shocking, but disheartening.

I dont follow, are you talking about a webpage accessed via a browser? Im using the fwa version of Voyager/wefwef, I cant seem to find this profile>settings section you mention here. The app devs who made this post discusses a feature thats about to come later which would enable us to hide read posts, its not present right now, the new feature they mentioned here was about automatically marking posts that you scroll through as read, even when you dont interact with them, which does work, as I later noticed.
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
I think I might have misunderstood the feature, the posts are marked read, you have mentioned you will introduce the hide posts feature later on, and combine this with that and all the posts I view would disappear with both the features turned on. Looking forward to it!
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
I am a little confused by the "mark posts read on scroll" feature, does it mean that posts that I just view, without interacting on any of the pages I am on, will not appear as visible when I open the same page later on? I tested to see if that would happen(with the setting turned on), but I keep seeing the same posts in the same pages. I do see there is a feature to hide posts by swiping left and pulling up/down, but the scrolling past doesnt seem to make any of the posts hide. Am I not understanding how its supposed to work?
Anyways, love the app, its my daily driver, and my opinion as an android user, i'm digging the ios theme and wouldnt mind if the app stayed like this going forward!

Thank you, I was aware of these two already, and for the most part the reliability of footybite links havent been great of late, and I had thought the redditsoccerstreams one had shut down completely, maybe this is a copycat or something, in any case, the more the merrier!

Hey, any chance you can share what you're using privately? Ive had a frustrating time since the app/service I relied on shut down recently, permanently by the looks of it, and im back to hunting links on websites which arent too reliable. Mainly looking to watch football(soccer), if thats relevant. TIA!

Yeah I thought so. As falkerie71 pointed out, IEMs with detachable cables usually have terminations that are standardised into two types, 2-pin and MMCX.
svotay 1 year ago • 100%
Hello, from my experiences as someone who just use them (headphones, earphones, IEMs) for consumption of music exclusively and acknowledging my complete ignorance in the production side of things, heres what I think of the classification of all things personal audio.
Broadly the classification is based on size, hence headphones and earphones.
Headphones come with a band that sit atop your head and have their drivers surrounded by cushioned pads which sit on or around your ears. On ear headphones usually will have earpads that are just big enough to sit on the edges of the ears and generally do not provide a complete seal around the ears. Around ear headphones have earpads that surround the ears and provide a much better seal, and hence a fuller sound, at least in my experience. The sound is produced by the drivers and the pads ensure the sound is channeled into your ears, and since the sound waves are received on the whole ear, the perception of space and width can be simulated by good design. Another classification that come here will be open back and closed back headphones. The drivers produce sound by creating vibrations in the air by oscillating a thin membrane. The air that faces our ears being vibrated is what we perceive as sound. But when the air inside the driver is functioning like this, the air on the other side goes through the same vibrations. So when a headphone manufacturer is designing a headphone, they have two choices, either find a way to close the space and dampen the unwanted vibrations as much as practicable, or design them with the backs open, with some dampening or more often than not, with just a dust filter to prevent ingress of dust from outside. Both these types of headphones have their own strengths and weaknesses, but generally open back headphones can simulate better perception of space i.e. width and height or soundstage as it is generally known, and closed back headphones can really reproduce bass in a more impactful and detailed manner, among other differences.
Earphones are tinier in size, and their whole construction is designed to sit inside the ear structure, with smaller drivers providing sound into the ear canals directly. The classification here are IEMs and, well, as I'm unsure of what the official terminology is, earbuds or simply non IEMs. The non IEMs are generally just small drivers just sitting in front of the ear canals blasting the sound waves out, not really providing any sort of seal or even good fit. Whereas in the case of IEMs, the drivers sit just outside the ear canals as in the above case, but there will exist a sort of tubing with rubber/foam/silicone tips that would actually get inserted into the ear canal. They provide excellent seal and allow you to listen to your music with as close to total isolation as is practicable, in my opinion.
In the question you posted you mention the cable connector for the IEMs you looked at arent what you would plug into a jack. This is sort of puzzling to me as from what I know, the most common terminations from earphones and headphones are standard, 3.5mm or 6.4 mm. There are other sizes, namely 2.5mm and 4.4mm, but as far as I know these are used for balanced output, which I'm not competent enough to explain. It is true that various manufacturers use different type of cables and terminations from the drivers, some detachable and some fixed, but the termination that is plugged into your source are generally standardised, to the sizes mentioned above, as far I am aware.
This post is super long by now, and there isnt much more I can tell you, apart from just letting you know there exists several types of driver technology, the majority being dynamic drivers, and planar, electrostatic, balanced armature being some of the other ones. Its not within my capability to explain all these, so I'll leave it to you to look them up if you're interested.

Tamilmv is a good source although mostly torrents, they provide Hindi, along with the most popular south Indian language films and shows. Hindi dubs of these other language stuff is also usually present. Their domains change occasionally, so searching for "tamilmv"+"proxy" will usually get you the latest working ones.
