I would never upgrade without doing a backup of my system so I could revert back. I assume you did not do this?

Under Arch it hasn't dropped to Stable yet, so unless you are running the testing branch, you won't have to worry. I think it took 5.27 two weeks or so to get to the stable branch after its "release," so you are probably looking at early to mid March. By then, we should also have Plasma 6.1 drop, ie, updates.

Just an update on this, Patch 5 was released and it was a huge update. Once again, even the developers recommend downloading the whole game again with Patch 5 included. To my knowledge, both Fitgirl/DODI are still offering outdated versions. You can get the latest game + Patch5 on 1337z by IGGGAMESCOM, works well for me.
As of this writing, Baldur's Gate 3 updated to 'Patch 4' with a lot of changes. Unfortunately, those changes mean there will not be a standalone 'Patch 4' to update your game. The developers made a lot of changes to the system files, thus not allowing the ability to create a update patch. You will have to download the whole game again with Patch 4 included. As of this writing, Fitgirl/DODI have not updated to this version. The only torrent one I know of is a Steam version on 1337x by IGGGAMESCOM; full game w/ Patch 4 included. Just to note: Patch 4 has broken a lot of mods, and has a few issues of its own. Also, from reports here, it breaks Vulkan on Linux. User beware.

There is no linux version. Steam/Valve has been updating their proton versions to work with BG3. I would recommend using their 'proton experimental.' If you buy from GOG, you can use Lutris, they have a runner that should install everything needed to run BG3, and it also lists some tweaks to make.

You could go with System76, I think they have a high-end "graphics" laptop, which would be suitable for gaming. Open source company so you are guaranteed everything is compatible with Linux.
However, if money is an issue or you find something else you like, for example the Dell XPS laptops ( in the past have been very compatible with linux,) here is a tool to check the model and/or the parts (important) such as wifi, etc., to see if they are compatible for a lot of laptops.

With the gaming industries increasing prices, piracy is the best way to sample a game, much like the old music stores would allow you to listen to tracks in store before purchasing. No one wants to plop down $70 and get a turd.
Also, we pirates are saving older games the gaming industry no longer want to support or offer. ARRRRRRHH!!!

I get the open source support part of your comment, but you are taking out the fact Steam/Valve has done a lot ...A LOT...to get games working on Steam. Additionally, for the first time every they have driving Linux marketshare higher than MacOS as a result. So, to dismiss them completely is wrong. They have done a lot for linux....and linux gaming.
Steam On Linux Usage Spikes To Nearly 2% In July, Larger Marketshare Than Apple macOS
You know who the price hikes haven't affected? ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/17c752b3-fec1-40d4-bfd1-7c04cd6af9a1.jpeg)

I need this!
Larian Studios has published the official start time for Baldur’s Gate 3, which is a global release and will be available to players around the world at the same time. Release times can be seen below: - 8am PDT (Los Angeles) - 11am EDT (New York/Quebec) - 12pm BRT (Rio De Janeiro) - 4pm BST (London) - 5pm CST (Berlin) - 1am, Aug. 4 (Sydney) - 3am, Aug. 4 (Auckland) - Developer Larian has recommended players who have taken part in early access uninstall their game and delete their save files to avoid issues at launch. Unfortunately, players will have to wait until the release time to start their download of the full game as a Baldur’s Gate 3 preload is not available. The game is also quite large, over 100 GB, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to download it before you start playing.

I don't trust any of these players, especially Adobe, who has always been king of the proprietary shitlords. If they are forming this "committee" or "alliance," why aren't there any open source players appointed?

For the record, I do believe in extraterrestrial life forms and I do believe they are here and have been for some time. However, this whole dog and pony show and congressional committee is another CIA/Intelligence Community front to control the narrative, think project blue book 2.0. You have a couple of high ranking intelligent agency officials sitting behind the whistle-blowers with big smiles on. James Clapper is one, ex Obama guy and ex DNI (although they are never retired.) Big on the UFO disinformation front. You have the main whistle-blower telling you all this information, but can't give out any data to back up his story...you just have to believe him (and the CIA.) You have to dig deep in the UFO information/disinformation happenings to understand what is going down here.

Oh there is a cheaper way coming, only the studios, actors and writers are fighting against it. It is call A.I. and it will put movie making in everyone's hands with a little know-how. Users won't need expensive sets/crews/studios/actors/writers....and not to mention, it will trample all over their protective, trademark properties. They know it is coming and it is going to destroy old Hollywood.

Most ovens go up to 500F+, so get an oven steel and place on a lower rack, get a pizza stone and place on the upper rack about 8-12" above. Warm the oven on the highest for about an hour, heat trapped between the steel/stone can get well over 600+. That is enough to make a good pizza for home ovens.

You are not alone. Many love its 'restrained' workflow, and DEs are subjective. It sounds like you are ready to move to KDE. KDE has a 'Overview' that mimics Gnome's, so best of both worlds and the taskbar in KDE is actually functional. Don't waste anymore time, make the switch to day. Operators are standing by. 🤣

KDE user so for my personal files I backup with both Kups and Bups (install both) and you get the choice of cloning type or only changed files with going back in time choices. Integrates into KDE taskbar/system settings.
For redundancy, I back up my main sync folder on the desktop to my laptop using Syncthing over my WiFi/network.
