Yeah my thoughts exactly. I got them from a friend of mine and they've just been hanging out in my charcoal pile so I use them once in awhile. I do think its worth throwing one or two in just for the smell though. It gives off a great smell for the first 10-15 minutes

So I tried them with fish I was grilling and did notice some of the taste. Of course you're only grilling fish for 15-20 minutes.
I also used them on a big roast I smoked and I swear I got a solid kick of flavor. Just not sure if that was from my dry brine or the briquette

That first paycheck feeling is so nice lol. First of many!

Sounds great! Probably going to knock out a little bit of yard work too. Accomplishing a couple small things let's me enjoy the laziness more lol

Traditionally I've done lump charcoal as the base and then some mesquite wood on top to add some more flavor and a higher heat point.
I do randomly have some basil/oregano briquettes laying around though so I might try that. That's a solid idea

Alright, my plan for the weekend is to do some wood-fired pizza over my charcoal grill and that's about it. Don't think it gets much better than that.
Cutting down the frequency of these a bit, think I'll aim for a few times a week. Happy Friday!!

This is my first time doing it! So we'll have to see. I'm a social worker not a teacher so awards aren't usually in my wheelhouse.

Oh wow that's pretty cool. I didn't think they did anything to alter their voice live. I wonder what the science behind that is. I saw Luke Combs a couple months ago at a football stadium and was blown away by the fact that he just came out and sang for two hours (he's not really dancing and performing lol). So it's been on my mind for a little bit. And the speaker thing makes a lot of sense as well.

Working on making graduation awards for my kindergarteners today. Highlights include "fantastic friend" and "shining star". Coming up with these names is fun lol

Interesting. Here's a question I've been thinking about. Do most artists lip sync? Or do that thing where they have the track running in their headphone to sing along with?
I have some background as a singer and I can't imagine what it would be like to perform in these huge outdoor venues with very little sound feedback for my voice.

Happy to hear that. Said it yesterday but it'll be interesting to see where everything goes. Fingers crossed there isn't some sort of instance war where everyone starts blocking each other 😂

Congratulations! That's a solid field to be in. There's so much work that only qualified electrician can do (as someone who bought a 120 year old house with some wiring issues).
How long was the apprenticeship?

Oh that's dope, I've always wondered what backstage at a large concert is like. I assume hectic but amazing?

Yeah that's my bad. I meant to respond to the poster below you who was acting like it was a breach of ethics or something.

I mean it's fine to feel this way, but it's an app in alpha. It doesn't have the resources to have an in-app browser. It's not like they are doing something shady.

Now that is thinking outside of the box! I'm just hoping I can still pick her up and carry her around when she's 90 pounds. Gotta start doing some curls.

Currently have a 5 month old puppy whose around 47 pounds. I'm worried she's going to turn into Clifford the big red dog (she's reddish brown). Not sure what I would do that point.

Maybe they're worried about legacy, wouldn't doubt it. But it does, a lot of the time come down to the strict constitutionalists vs. those who are more willing to be open to interpretation and intent.

Very well said, and it's also interesting because so much of the previous decisions are based on the general attitude of the time or the policies. Like looking back the decisions are technically incorrect in a lot of areas (school integration etc.). Obviously the outcome is "good". But that's where the constitutionalists come in and knock it down.

Still in shock that this was the decision from the Supreme Court. We (the masses) are always trying to put the justices in these black and white boxes, but now Roberts and previously Barrett have issued decisions that don't seem to be line with that thinking.

Are you on mobile or are you using desktop? The mobile app is definitely still in development so it's missing a lot of those QOL things that you are missing.
For me it's been helpful to use that fediverse search tool, and copy and paste it into the search. Seems to work better on desktop. I've got a decent feed going today, but it's definitely a work in progress.

If it's fantasy I'll almost always just read it as long it's not clearly a YA book (not that there's anything wrong with it).
For other genres it's mainly centered on Goodreads reviews (with a grain of salt of course).

It's been interesting seeing how these communities grow and merge over time. I'm new to Lemmy, but it'll be fun to see what happens and if all these different communities will merge or consolidate.
It's especially cool to see the country/language specific instances. I feel like Reddit was very Americanized (politics = U.S. politics). It's nice to go take a look at what's going on everywhere else in a structured way.

Yeah I wonder about this a lot and what we would have to sacrifice to increase the amount of local food production. I know it would mean we'd have access to less "in season" items. But outside of that what would the impact be? Around me there are people starting farms for grass fed/free range meat, but how big can you scale that model. The way we transport/utilize food is terrible in the U.S.
Seems like the solution is to eat less meat (which I agree with in spirit). But also seems extremely unrealistic. It also doesn't cover all crops.

Yeah I posted this above but it's also just a difference in how men/women traditionally have worn their pants. Men wear theirs down around the hips, not at the actual waist. So I kept measuring and buying pants that were too big because I was measuring at my stomach. All my pants ended up being 2-3 inches too long.

100% and I absolutely get that aspect. My original post was more about trying to find out what those rural solutions are since everyone commenting did keep saying things along the line of "all we need to do is __________".
Not debating the effectiveness of what they're suggesting, but also I'm allowed to ask what the other ideas are for those of us who are outside of the urban areas lol.
Hey all, figured I'd start doing a free talk thread if people are interested. I had one back on Reddit that I was in and it's fun to just post whatever thoughts your having throughout the day (especially when work is boring). I'm sure it'll take some time to get going, and if there's no interest I won't spam. Just figured I'd see how it goes!
