yeah, same thing here. like, how can I explain my wife that is less technical than me, that "hey, this Proton service is great for privacy and all, but you won't have Calendar widgets and notifications when I add stuff to our shared calendars", and she will be like "why?" and I will be doomed. I can accept those things, cause I care more about privacy, but she doesn't and she prefers functionality over that

    PHPStorm to VSCode migration?

I want to try to migrate from PHPStorm to VSCode, what plugins to get to have the experience similar? I mean the code inspections, renaming, usage etc. Will PHL Intelephense plugin be all I need to achieve this? with xdebug and phpunit plugins in addition to that, or there are some other plugins that make the transition better?

on reddit they wrote the yubikeys are a thing for whole Proton and all its apps, not Pass specific. and that they are looking into it. I am too waiting for this to come for the apps, as it’s kinda stupid now to have to set the codes 2FA to be able to use yubikeys just for the web.

ok, I see some on my country sites with a reasonable price. thanks for the tips! if you don't mind I would like to ask one more question in regards to the keys.

How does they work in pairs? Like, I see an auction where I can buy one key separately, but to dont get locked out of account I would rather want to buy two. Should I look for auction with bundle of two? or I can set up two separate keys to be used for the same authorizaion?

that are two separate keys? or that's one key that has USB + NFC on it? cause that would be kinda good, as all my devices have USB except for the iPhone, but it has NFC so that would be sufficient enough

that are good suggestions. my bank accounts all require two steps authentications, with the second one being mostly auth via mobile app, so that part is enforced and always keeps the account secured better.

I do have one concern with the Proton account itself, as you wrote "no all eggs in one basket" rule of thumb. With the Pass, I have the 2FA integrated together with passwords (not for bank accounts) - a little risk in here with a gain on convenience.

Though I certainly do not store my Proton password in it, keeping it memorable and more than 40 characters long makes me feel safe. Im not sure what 2FA app to use for the Proton tho, would you recommend anything? I cannot use a physical key, as my devices have different USB connectors and I cannot have a one key for all.

that is a true concern. however in this case I have a good feature provided by my bank provider, where I can create a virtual-only card, to which I send a fixed balance amount, like $100 and that is all that card have - even tho my account may be at $1000. so given this and the e2e encryption, I guess its probably safe to store - at least the virtual cards

I used it today for 8 hours and damm, I must say that it is quite good. Definitely better than the "keep playing song when playlist ends" or the curated weekly lists. I had to skip songs only few times and I didn't mark ANY as "dislike", where I often that to do so few times in a row on the other options.

Perhaps a change in how I use Apple Music made this better, cause I learned from some comment here or on Reddit, that the algorithm acts better if songs are marked as love/dislike to tell it the taste, not like in Spotify where it just goes along the lists or what I listened to in the past.

Magic Trackpad for work? Good, Bad or Fine?

Is anyone here using Magic Trackpad for work? or rather for a longer periods of time? Not necessarily with a hand over it whole 8 hours, but around 50% of that time. I’m using a trackball right now and am considering a trackpad for my left hand. At first I would want to replace the trackball/mouse with a trackpad to put relief on my right hand, but I’m also considering using both. What are your opinions on using the trackpad alone? (I do love it on my macbook, but during my work it’s mostly in clamshell) and what are your opinions on using a trackpad on one side and mouse on the other? is it a bit too much? Edit: so, I bought it, probably not many will see this edit, but the same will be with comment. Bought and no regrets, it feels really great for daily use. However I am using it with a mouse on the other side. Im left handed, so trackpad on left feels more natural and mouse on the right is useful in some cases.

that's kind of double edged sword. If Apple would be to mask your purchases, they would most likely have to know about what the purchases are to hide them from the Bank. But in current state I assume (based on the infographic I posted in separate comment), that Apple doesn't know about the purchases much, thus they are not masked on the bank's side.

But I am no expert in this matter, so I may be wrong.

I'm not entirely sure if this fully answers your question or if it's still accurate, but I came across a graphic comparison a while ago that illustrates how Apple Pay and Google Pay handle payment tokens. According to this infographic, it can be assumed that Apple does not pass every payment through their own servers. As a result, even if they do store some information, it's likely not much.

That is a very good opinion on the Arc, thanks for sharing.

I personally love the Little Arc the most. The idea behind it was great, being able to open link in a separate simplified window is great.

Other than that I don’t really know what I liked the most. The idea behind tabs is good too, but similar thing can be achieved with pinned tabs on Safari (obviously not that fast). The profiles idea is good as well, but I’m missing being able to associate them with current Focus status and I bet that the new Profiles coming to Safari will have that.

What do you love or hate about Safari?

Safari is often treated harshly, especially by developers working on websites. I also can’t recall if anyone ever said or wrote that he likes it as a user. I personally am using it on all my devices and I enjoy it simplicity. I dislike the fact that there are very few good extensions for it, but I’m not sure if that’s a problem from developers or from Apple. So, my question today is: what do you like or hate about Safari, that either made you use it or uninstall?

This is a decent advice, to take this part of my career easy, focus on what's more important (the kids), and wait for when they will be able to spend more time together, leaving more for me. Soo, like 3 years from now at least.

Well, given how exhausting fatherhood can be and the stability of my current job, I might just continue learning passively through articles or books. Additionally, I could incorporate the advice from this post and spend some time during work hours researching topics that I'll need for my project. This approach would allow me to snipe two birds with one stone.

    Thanks for the advice here.

What are some cool niche applications you use and recommend?

Well, basically the title. I love trying out new apps across the whole ecosystem, but searching for them in the App store is not fun, and a bunch of apps I have used I found by accident in some posts or comments on the web. So, the question is, what apps that are not widely known you use and recommend? Mac, iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS. From me: WatchOS: TimeGlance that serves as date and time complication. iOS/WatchOS: Duffy that serves only as a glanceable steps meter, with no fancy additions that many apps there have, and simple clean complications in watch. iOS: Ermine, mainly serves me as a calendar widget that is better than the built in one, showing dots over the days that have some events and highlighting holidays. iOS: Wristy, a widget to show my wrist temperature (requires Watch 8) MacOS: Numi, a somewhat “natural language” calculator. MacOS: Warp, a rich wrapper on the terminal.

How do you remain on track with toddlers onboard?

I have been working in the industry for 8 years and am now considered a senior developer, also as a team lead. Three years ago, my first child was born, and a few months ago, a second one arrived. While I don't regret my decision to have kids at all, I do feel bad about how the lack of free time affects my career and how my knowledge falls behind the industry. Before having kids, I used to spend a few hours a week on never-ending personal projects to learn new things. However, now I neither have the time nor the energy for that. The only way that has worked for me is to read some tech books, which are often not about coding, and to read some blogs or subs like this. However, I feel like this approach is too passive and is not providing the best outcome that I would expect. Any tips there, perhaps from someone who was is similar situation?

Apple Music or Spotify? what do you use and why?

Just wondering out here, cause Im really torn between these two. With Spotify family and Apple One I use both alternately and in both Im missing some parts that the other one have. - for Apple Music I mostly lack good new songs suggestion algorithm, because it very often just plays me a song that I would never ever listen to - and that's based on "continue playing" from current playlist. - for Spotify I lack Losseless and Spatialise. in terms of UI, both are somewhat not great - Apple Music is cumbersome and hard to navigate to song that is currently playing. - Spotify is just too much noise on the screen for me What are your thoughts?

To lighten up some discussion here, I would like to ask what features or changes you would love to see in future PHP versions? We know that in recent versions a lot of nice adjustments were added, but I bet most of us dreams for more. I personally would love to see types on inline variables, at first even not strict. However, I don’t know if it’s remotely possible with how currently the language is implemented.
