As a teacher, I can confirm this. I always move the cursor out of the way, though. I don't get why other teachers don't do the same and how so many of them are so tech illiterate. Although I'm more amazed at the tech illiteracy of the students who use their phones 24/7.

I think you have a typo in the image link you posted on reddit explaining the fediverse. The one you posted in your comment above works, but not the reddit comment. I think you have an extra \ after the Hoc5dXU on the reddit link. Awesome explanation image, though. Did you make it?

I recommend eating a lot of cheese and absolutely NO fiber. Not sure if it will make you sweat less, but I'm pretty sure if I ate only cheese for 3 days, it wouldn't be too hard to wait till the end of it to poop. In fact, I may need some help at that point... maybe you should eat some fiber like a couple hours before you do plan on trying to poop, and also drink lots of water at that point, too. I personally find cheese very "helpful" in getting myself constipated, and fiber + water to be a great way to smoothen the pooping process.

Nah, I'm just pointing out dumb things you're saying. You're right that it's pointless, though, as no one else is going to read this far down the comment chain and it'd also be obvious enough to them. And we sure know at this point that you're incapable of doing anything but doubling down, so trying to point out the ridiculousness of the things you're saying will just fly over your head.

Lol that you think the majority of conservatives don't think trans people should live. I mean, the ultra-right fascist conservatives, sure, but most conservatives just don't agree with people doing certain things. They aren't about to taking a flamethrower to every member of the LGBT community they come across. Have you ever even had a face-to-face conversation with someone you disagree with in real life?

Was trying to show one of my students some code on Stack Overflow a little while back to help them figure something out, and they caught hung up looking over the code in the question, and I was like "No, don't look at the code from the question! It's wrong, that's why they're asking about it! Just look at the top answer!"

You know, my favorite thing about Lemmy showing both upvotes and downvotes is that not only do we see that a lot of people disagree with you, but more specifically that, since you're the only one upvoting yourself, literally everyone else can tell that you're wrong.
You know it's not that hard to just admit that you were wrong. It was an easy mistake to make, so just admit it and move on. Realize that you can learn and improve. Doubling down just to make yourself seem more like an idiot is never the answer. Everyone is capable of being stupid and making mistakes, but it's the real idiots who are incapable of learning from them.

Yeah, for sure. I'm not sure I really mind that, though. It's also not super crazy to get a basic handle on, so if it becomes popular enough, more people will be willing to try to figure it out. I also imagine that the developers working on it will try to find more intuitive ways for users to get started.
I don't really care too much about the mainstream coming here, though. Part of the appeal of the Fediverse, I feel, is that it's got that kind of "underground" vibe to it. We are out of the mainstream, but there are still people around, discussion is happening, content is being created. It has a fresh and unique feel to it.

True, good to know. Will this still display communities from that instance that haven't been "discovered" by members of Lemmy.world yet?
nepatriots32 1 year ago • 100%
protip, if you search for an community and it says “no results found”, the act of searching actually adds it to your instance. Just refresh the page and it’ll show up.
Oh interesting. Thanks!

It seems like I'm unable to post here. Is it because I'm from Lemmy.world? Did one instance somehow block the other in terms of posting or something?
Also, my comment somehow got teleported to the most recent post the first time I tried to comment on here. Definitely some weird things happening.

In ranked, I've mainly played a lot of Jarvan jungle, but I sometimes do Shen or Jax jungle, too, and enjoy all of them top, sometimes. I usually lean towards tanks/bruisers on SR, but I honestly mostly play ARAM, and I'm cool with playing a myriad of champs there.
nepatriots32 1 year ago • 100%
I do already know how to do that, but I'm mainly wondering about being able to view an entire other instance's community list. I mean, yeah, I guess I can work around that, and that is what I've been doing, but it's just a little clunky to have to go to another instance logged out, copy the url, and then go back in through my own instance. There's really no other way?
I was wondering if there's a way to view a list of communities from another instance, but still logged into my account. I could, for example, go to https://lemmy.ml/communities, but if I do, I'm no longer logged into my Lemmy.world account. Now, I know I can see communities from other instances by going to the Lemmy.world communities list and sorting by all, but I don't know of a way to directly go into another instance's community list. And I think I've heard that you can't see a community from another instance until people from your instance have "interacted" with it. I'm not sure exactly what that means. Is that just if they visit the community, or do they have to subscribe to it? Regardless, I'd have to imagine that you must be able to view communities from another instance in some easy way or else it seems like it would be really hard to discover other instances' communities for the first time. Thanks!

The trailer gave me Paper Mario sort of vibes. Is that somewhat accurate based on other details people might know about the game?

I get that, and it could make sense to archive things at some point, but I do think it was nice for certain communities, aside from things like sports, news, etc., to be able to still comment on old posts. Especially help posts or things like that, because they could still be relevant months or even years later.
nepatriots32 1 year ago • 100%
The only thing they did do relatively recently that I liked was adding the option for subs to not archive posts that are older than 6 months. But I guess when you think about it, that's more of just taking a restriction away, and less of adding something new. Other than that, though, it's either just useless stuff or stuff that actively made things worse.
nepatriots32 1 year ago • 100%
I'm liking it a lot. I think it will get even better once more people show up. It's kind of cool to be part of pioneering this experience, though. I do feel like this is going to grow into something substantial.

Not sure if you know yet, but I was curious when this would happen and what it looks like when the server is down. Will we have a server maintenance message pop up when we try to go to lemmy.world or will some stuff show up but just nothing works until the move is finished?

I'm on my computer, so that doesn't work quite as well.

You have to set it up like this, where you do [link name](actual url) in [] and () next to each other just like that. Obviously, you can make the link name whatever you want, it's just the url that matters.
If I just directly type [Memes@lemmy.ml](https://lemmy.world/c/memes@lemmy.ml), I get:

I know for me, at least, it's giving me a delay where it has the spinning icon for a solid 10 seconds or so, and then the comment actually goes through. I'm not sure if it still goes through if you click off the page, though. I just wait for it to post first.

Edit 1: <1 minute?
Edit 2: Ah ok, so it shows edits immediately, unlike the 3 minute window reddit gives you. Good to know.

Oh, thanks! I found it and changed it.
I also realize now that I had gone to lemmy.world/c/lemmyworld, and that's why I hadn't noticed it before. I didn't even realize there was a difference, lol.
nepatriots32 1 year ago • 100%
Ah yes, I see I'm stupid now. Haha, didn't even look there because I was assuming the lemmy.world page would only have posts posted directly there, but that does make a lot of sense! Thanks! Now that I'm getting a feel for things, this really isn't that different from reddit. It's just a lot smaller and not controlled by corporate greed.
I was wondering if there's any sort of homepage like on reddit where it shows up with posts from the subs you've subscribed to? I can't find anything like that, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place. And if there isn't something like that, is the only point to subscribing to communities that you can find them on your subscriptions list more easily? Or is there anything else that it does?
