There is a new Linux based tablet available for pre-order. I personally do not know Juno Computers yet - can one trust them to deliver a final product which will work quite well?

Good questions - I do not know all the answer yet. Also the mainnet, which this decentralized is also in ramping up phase and underway. My node did for example not yet receive any search job jet. As I understood they are building an own index, but also acting as a meta search engine. Node then will process request to Google, Bing and so on.

Yeah you are right with many points. I do not have any special plans - I am just annoyed by Google and Bing or also now DDG that you are always spied on different services in the web. While we have open and distributed networks such as Mastodon, Pixelfed and many more, we do not have a usabable federated search engine. I know YaCy from long time ago, but I think its also still not competitive yet. As Searx is just a meta search engine built on top of the known emgines, it is also not an alternative.

Probably yes, but maybe one could try to set up a decentralized storage to spread the load similar to approaches in YaCy or maybe built it upon IPFS if the database is based on static files.

Why is it so difficult to built a competitive search engine next to Google and Bing?

Isn't it possible to "find" the most valuable website in the web with the help of a well mixed community? I am thinking if an small browser add-on which can share the basic url of a visited websites with a website scrapper. The scrapper can then index the whole website with its sub pages. The add-on could be installed independently by users which would like to strengthen the network. Besides setting up an own search index, one could try to export search results from #Google and Bing as a ramp up help, which are similar to #startpage and #duckduckgo. I mean I am no search engine expert, but is there so much more magic?

Pressing the 'home/house' button should go scroll back to the top. If one scrolls down a long way it one needs to scroll back to the top manually, which is just a waste of time. Instead one could douple tab the home button.

It is definitely on this years wish list 😅

Did you see the watch faces, so cool: https://watchy.sqfmi.com/watchfaces

I need to check if the screen is available in bigger dimensions, then one could build a watch for the table for for wall mounting.

Exactly @AgreeableLandscape@lemmy.ml , I am thinking of developing and shipping an GUI based app, which is ready to use without installing Python seperately. I am not sure if GTK and Qt for Python can be easily packaged and deployed on Android devices?

I found BeeWare which claims to write code once and deeploy it everywhere, such as on iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS, Linux, Web, and tvOS. I tested it once, but I had trouble with OS independet packages, which were not available for both OS, such as Android and Linux.

Furthermore I found KIVY, which claims to run on Linux, Windows, OS X, Android, iOS, and Raspberry Pi as well, but I didn't manage to gete an Android apk up and running yet.

Your hint @masu@lemmy.ml is valuable, I think I need to make some code more OS independent. That should be the problem while playing with BeeWare, that some Python packages are not available on all plattforms.

Can you recommend any cross platform Python app development frameworks where you write code once and it can be deployed to Linux, Android, Windows, MacOS and iOS.
