I recently started going through his Best Of short story anthology both by reading and by listening. You'll need to put 120% of your attention, but (at least for me) it was easier to get lost while listening (big surprise). I'd stick to physical.

If something is priced above what I consider it's worth, I just don't use it.
Tell that to every student who has to pay unreasonable amounts every semester for textbooks...

Privacy versus convenience... For what I know, the most common solution to your concern would be to setup a Calibre server and access it via your Android devices. But that's obviously a tad more complex than uploading EPUBs to Google Books.

Not sure if that helps, but if you've never programmed before, I definitely recommend Automate The Boring Stuff With Python by Al Sweigart. The book is free to read, plus the author is on Reddit (u/alsweigart) and releases free signups to the Udemy course based on the book each month.

Not sure if that's the type of creativity you're looking for, but it's quite common to sell stickers on Etsy, Redbubble and similar sites. Some stores are quite successful on it.

Exactly. A lot of talk about how we can make fuel out of X, but not much about how it takes more energy to produce it than it can deliver afterwards.

I'd like to know about that as well! Plus, given the relatively small size of some Lemmy communities, I'm sure it'll be way easier than being a mod on their Reddit counterparts.

Droidify user here as well. The last update really made it stand out.

I usually decompress using WinRAR. And about being centered, I don't use a tiling manager.

Who said that Zlib is gone? Besides Tor, you can get access to personal domains by sending an email to blackbox [at] zlib [dot] se
I know it may sound scammy, but if you still have a Reddit account I'd go to r/zlibrary and browse the pinned megathread for more info. I really hope that this community will eventually migrate here though...

I've reprised Darth Plagueis by James Luceno, a little SW fantasy to lighten the mood. After that, I don't know if I feel like attempting Echopraxia by Peter Watts or if I'll just go with a different saga

Would buying something on iTunes even qualify as owning it? Isn't it subjected to the availability of their service, just like any DRM purchase?

What additional arguments besides personal experience would you give to back this precision claim?
Temperature scales are arbitrary by nature, and the criteria behind their definition can be useful or not. Fahrenheit's isn't that much useful compared to Celsius' or Kelvin's.

So basically the resources provided by the community are crap if they don't align with the way you do things, right?
I think that this community's goal is pretty clear. Or at least, it's pretty clear that the goal isn't to make You happy, or to act according to Your opinion only.

On the other hand, transitioning hasn't been smooth at all for a lot of comunities. The user is loosing access to them by leaving Reddit.
I think that trying to be more proactive on Lemmy by getting those comunities you miss from Reddit to thrive here + becoming a Reddit lurker using adblocks and some of the 3rd party apps that won't be dead in a couple of weeks is the "least wrong" way to make the change if you want to make it gradual.

Thanks! Should've checked out more carefully the Github before asking. It's already installed

I'm looking for a gradual transition from Reddit to Lemmy. To make things easier, I started to use Redreader. Man, I wish I'd done this switch earlier.
Redreader's dev has expressed interest on Lemmy compatibility, so when (if) this happens, I know which app I'll be using.

Yeah well, this kind of metadata is actually nice to have. I meant how to erase any trace of who uploaded the file.

A little bit late to the party here. What is the reason why lemmygrad.ml is blocked?

Check the Megathread, it's literally the first post you see when entering this community.

I guess that the fact that such guides are hard to come across makes sense. There are many countries where the actual crime is to upload content, while downloading it is not actively prosecuted.

The worst part of everything going on both with Twitter and with Reddit is that they clearly know that deep down, they are not in trouble. All this social media companies have created addicts, and everyone will keep wanting to get their fix, no matter how shitty the platform is. And I've seen no one mentioning such thing. Twitter and Reddit are not doomed. We are.

Yeah, doing it through TOR is a no brainer as well!
kilmister 1 year ago • 100%
Yeah, I've used Calibre to that end once or twice. I guess what I'd be worried is if there's still any trace left after removing the DRM from a .acsm file

Yeah, I've listened to this one lately, not only while reading but also while studying lmao
When you're used to this kind of stuff that's normal.

It'll be nice to read about! I also remember reading somewhere that Clarke's world were working on offering some kind of packages to get their older releases, so it could be a nice guide for once they get them out as well
Basically what the title says, after getting so much of it I might end up contributing, but I want to do it safely.

Totally, better discovery tools are definitely a need. People usually link to https://browse.feddit.de/ but some of the communities I'm subscribed to don't show up there. Who knows how many more of them are we still missing...

Lurking through communities related to my favorite literary genres while having Z-Lib is like walking into a candy store as a 10-year-old and being told that you can get all that you want free of charge. Of course curating a library is enjoyable lmao
I actually like the download limit that Z-Lib has for regular users. If you use it up, it moght be a good time for you to go actually read what you have downloaded.

I think that time will tell which one ends up winning the race.
What I usually do is checking for activity, in terms of recent posts, comments, and whatnot. If both show similar activity levels, I'll just subscribe to both and keep watching for developments.

It's interesting to see how the acceptance rates decrease with age, in an inverse correlation with purchasing power.
Young people are broke, and the entertainment industry is going to have a hard time adapting to this reality in a few years if things don't change.

Reading about Sci Fi and punk made me relate it to music, and I couldn't help but think of Blood Incantation's Hidden History of the Human Race LP. Amazing record for fans of extreme genres, with a mesmerizing cover by Bruce Pennington. Perfect combo.

I'm sure that Blindsight will be better after rereading!
Also, going through the Clarkesworld backlog is no small feat, that's 201 numbers as of right this month lmao
I just finished Blindsight by Peter Watts + the short story The Colonel, which serves as a tie-in between the first book and Echopraxia. Gonna have to wait a while before picking Echopraxia though, this books are demanding!
