As an example: My vehicles electric battery is warrantied for 10 years or 150,000 mi. Even with that being said, I have seen models of my car used well into the 300-400,000 mi range.

And while I'm not an expert on the matter, it is my understanding that there are recycling plants for electric vehicle batteries. Which I would imagine would reduce the environmental cost of electric vehicles.

Not to mention the research being done on different battery chemistries that are less environmentally hazardous, last longer, are more energy dense, and so on.

As someone with ADD, I get stuck in scroll loops a lot. If the scrolling had an end, it's easier to kick my brain out and get it to go do other things.

But if there's infinite scroll, my brain will happily sit for hours and just scroll through random crap.

Which is more of a problem with my brain, but having interrupted scrolling makes it easier to break the loop.

That would explain why I don't see them often. I haven't been very active in gaming as of late, let alone modding. And I generally don't pirate games. I'm cool with people that do, I just don't personally. (Virus fears, being out of the loop long enough that I don't know any good sites, etc)

Again, I'm not the original poster. But zip isn't as dense as 7zip, and I honestly haven't seen rar are used much.

Also, if I remember correctly, the audio codecs and compression types. The other poster listed are open source. But I could be mistaken. I know at least 7zip is and I believe opus or something like that is too

Not the original poster, but there are newer audio codecs that are more efficient at storing data than mp3, I believe. And there's also lossless standards, compared to mp3's lossy compression.

Doesn't it compress the contents that it's storing to help kind of get the best of both worlds?

You get faster storage because it's in ram still, but with it being compressed there's also "more" available?

I could be completely mistaken though

    Antenna System Identification

I'm wondering if anybody knows what the antenna (and seemingly accompanying hardware) on this telephone pole is. ![](https://lemmy.ko4abp.com/pictrs/image/bfc9c667-baa1-4606-8cd1-76d1dbf40e63.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.ko4abp.com/pictrs/image/4189c632-0f0d-4f22-9bb7-4e93a82a1ecd.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.ko4abp.com/pictrs/image/9efcd813-c545-4d27-badb-d25cec910164.jpeg) Thank you in advance!

    Hello! Nice to meet you!

I recently bought arborist throw line for POTA use. It helps to get the antenna into the trees.

Might be worth a look, if you're interested in that. I bought from Weaver leather.

In my defense, it hasn't been used in a long time.

But the best way to learn is by doing. And I had interest in ethical hacking/penetration testing

I want to grab one of the new models and make a portable station out of it for doing digital work. Mostly for stuff like POTA.

For a little while, I had a tiny web page running on a raspberry pi at my house.

I also used that raspberry pi for the SSH tunnel.

I have an RTL-SDR that lets me do that too. I also have aircrack-ng on one of my Linux installs, for research purposes.

For cooling do you use air, water, or both?

I want to run a home media server. Something like Jellyfin probably. Maybe a Minecraft server too.

I also interested in rolling my own VPN. So far I've just use an SSH tunnel for traffic tunneling.

If the X6100 runs Linux, it's possible you could install Pat onto it!

If you have a Linux distro installed, you could install Pat. It's an email client. It works with some of WinLinks stuff, if I remember correctly.

Personally I use a DigiRig with my G90. Laptop running WinLink Express<->VARA HF<->DigiRig<->Cables<->G90

I have heard of the X6100 running FT8 natively. I'm sure it could run some version of WinLink, but I'm not sure if it could do VARA specifically. Last I knew VARA (the modem itself) was Windows only.

If the X6100 uses x86, you could probably just use WINE. If it's something like ARM, you'd need WINE inside an emulator.

I imagine there's other options too, like packet/ARDOP/etc.

I have personally never done WinLink over VHF/UHF, although it is a goal of mine someday. (Doesn't help that the nearest VHF/UHF nodes to me presently are at least 30 miles away.)

Do you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to help anytime!

There is also the TinySA. Which is a similar idea as the NanoVNA, but it's for spectrum analysis instead of an antenna analysis.

I recommend the NanoVNA, which is about $50.

It's definitely not top of the line, and it does take a bit of playing with to get used to. However it has a heck of a lot of features for the price point.

I do something similar with my G90!

I have an (Apache?) case from Harbor Freight. It contains the radio, 10ft of power cord, the mic, 18ft of coax, and a dirt-cheap CW key.

    Love the look of yours!

    First Time Using Lemmy

I live in upstate New York, I have a general class license, and this is my first time using Lemmy (or any federated social for that matter). My mobile rig is a VR-N7500 "50W" VHF/UHF. It uses Bluetooth control from my phone, and it does APRS. My QTH rig is a Xiegu G90 on a 40m EFHW powered by micro solar. I mainly do FT8, as well as a little VARA HF WinLink. (I'm a bit mic shy and my antenna setup isn't that great.) I'm interested in POTA (and maybe SOTA). Hope to meet some friendly folk!
