It's insane that you have people working multiple part time jobs totaling 40+ hr/week but still don't have employer-subsidized healthcare because employers don't have to offer it to employees working under a certain number of hours/week. And there are businesses that deliberately offer only part time jobs for that exact reason.

Yeah, and I think she's had plastic surgery to fit herself into that weird mold of Melania and Kim Guilfoyle, dark hair, wide cheekbones and squinty eyes covered in heavy eyeliner and mascara. She was actually kind of cute looking before that (though still ugly in her views).

Not only does the Republican presidential candidate have no ideas about running the country, the existing senator of Ohio, someone presently in power, is busy making up stories for the media to illustrate "white Americans' plight" rather than actually working on legislation that will help his constituents.

Salt meats the night before you cook them. Especially tougher cuts, but salt is good for all cuts.
Browning ground beef really means getting a sear on part of it, not just making it not pink. And split it into batches so that you don't have all the water coming out and boiling the meat instead of searing it.
When baking, weigh ingredients. Most of cooking is art; baking is science.

That probably describes a good chunk of Trump supporters. They are very enamored by the idea of strength and the terms they use reflect that influence it has on their world. The idea that America is presently diminished and will become great = a strong and respected nation leading other nations. The desire for hypermasculine men and submissive women. If their leader looks weak, they're sensitive to that. They'll deny it as long as they can, of course. But there could very well be a point where the collective feeling turns away from Trump.

There's no voting on the rules. One family (and this is just the one family that spoke up about it) vs one or two families that wanted Trump there means zip. The article focusing on the complaining family is just making it about human interest. Rules is rules.

As a California resident I can tell you the only white people working in those fields are the owners and supervisors. The immigrants and undocumented are much of the reason a head of lettuce doesn't cost $8. And this kind of work is so hard nobody else wants to do it. Early hours, cold in the morning, hot sun in the afternoon, the only shelter is when you're taking a break, a lot of stooping and bending.

Yeah, but they're also busy trashing Kamala too.
"Is Harris an ideal candidate? Is she an incredibly talented orator? Is she deft on her feet and nimble in debate? Is she a famous wonk? Does she have a long track record of competence at the state and federal level? Has she been scrutinized by a tough no-nonsense press and come out stronger on the other side?" wrote Wright. "No, of course not — but she’s an alternative to Trump/Biden, and that’s probably going to be enough."

The far right is obsessed with this image of hyper masculinity from Alex Jones's magic pills to Andrew Tate to AI generated Trump with Superman's figure. Their ideal men in that world do not show emotion and they damn well never cry even in happiness, that stuff is for women and other weaklings that need a strong man to run their lives. And it's all based in insecurity.
They have no idea that people with real strength of character are secure in themselves and can show tenderness and vulnerability knowing that does not define them as weak.

So it can notify you when the water has reached the set temperature or the time you set for cooking is up. Which can be handy. However, I found the BT very weak on my Anova and it would lose connection when I went into my home office a mere 25' away, so I stopped using it. There's actually no need for the water to be up to temperature before you put your food in, and food can sit as long as you want; half the point of sous vide is to be able to hold food at temp without overcooking. So you don't really need the timer either.

Thanks ❤️ My mom was the one with the green thumb. She had a backyard full of flowers, flowering shrubs and trees, but I did buy some of the same kinds for my own home to remind me of her.

It's possible. In both my house and my mom's, the plant was/is very close to a window, as close as possible. Mom's was south facing, mine is west, but my window is twice as large as hers. (The top of both windows is about 1.5' from the ceiling but the windowsill is higher on hers.)

This stephanotis was given to my parents for their wedding in 1961. It bloomed every year for my mom. After she passed in 2019 I took it home and did my best with it. But apparently these plants are notorious for being a bit fussy and resisted all my efforts to get it to flower. Two years ago I read something about how they don't like being rotated, so I stopped doing that and bought a grow light to keep the non-sun side from going bald. That seems to have done the trick. There are about 5 or 6 clusters and this is the first to open up. And yes they smell fantastic!

I hate lugging around that heavy noisy thing, and I don't have pets. I'm a bit shocked at how much hair two humans drop in a week. The robovac runs twice a week and I empty it once a week, and it keeps the more open/obvious spaces looking pretty pristine. Dust on a shiny floor really shows. There are places where it cannot go and those need to be done by me, but they're less visible areas so no need for frequent vacuuming.

The words we've been using before -- fascists, neonazis, dictators -- oddly enough seem to make Republicans laugh at Democrats because we make them sound scary/we sound scared. Calling them weird trivializes them, and reduces them to barely under creepy uncle status. Calling them weird stings because they think themselves the epitome of normal -- they think they're the "real" Americans, not the aberrant ones.

I'm 2 decades younger than Trump, got into a bike accident over a year ago, taking a deep scrape on my shin, and I still have a scar.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) announced she will not seek reelection this year, avoiding an unpredictable three-way race in the swing state that had many national Democrats worried about holding onto the seat.
Salmon was vacuum sealed a couple months ago but smelled a little burnt and a small amount (1/8" deep x 2" long by 1/4" wide) discolored. I generously cut off the discolored bit but wondering if the rest will taste bad. Edit: It turned out great! indistinguishable from un freezer burnt.
I started to polish my nails about 6 weeks ago. When changing polish I've noticed my nails getting yellower at the tips. I've read that the offending ingredient is nitrocellulose, which my base coat has (OPI natural nail) and probably the other coats as well (Essie, Seche Vite). My color polish is typically a light/natural pink. So my question is, what if anything un-yellows the nails? Should I leave off the polish for N days? Filing (which I don't really want to do as my nails are pretty thin already)? Thanks and happy new year
I know it's silly but I really like that frog. This morning he got replaced by a screen that you don't have to swipe up to view, and includes both hourly and 10 day forecasts. I followed some instructions I found elsewhere to clear google search data (settings: apps: google app: storage & cache: Manage space) and that brought the frog back for about 10 minutes. Then the weather line disappeared entirely from At A Glance. I rebooted the phone and got the weather back in the widget, but the frog was gone again. Would really like him back... is there something else I can try. ETA 5 days later my froggy friend is back... I hadn't tried changing anything else, it seems just random
It actually did end up with a breath of sourdough to it and a nice chewiness. This was some starter that I had built up and maintained, dried and stored over a year ago, then rehydrated a week ago.
I think some electronics in the motor have gone kaput. The wall mounted button works, but I have 2 remotes and neither works. (I did change the battery on one as well as try to re-pair it with the motor, to no avail.) My options are to replace the circuit board ($125) or buy a new motor unit ($199). The original motor is a Liftmaster and the lift is a belt; it's probably about 20 years old. The cost of a new motor unit is not hugely more than the circuit board and I would get additional features like a battery backup. If I go for a new unit will it work with the existing belt? I'm looking at a [basic 1/2hp Chamberlain](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Chamberlain-1-2-HP-Smart-Quiet-Belt-Drive-Garage-Door-Opener-with-Battery-Backup-B2211T/322246530). Thanks!
I'm a Google Fi customer and have location turned on, so Maps asks me to review places I've been. Yesterday I was asked to review a hair salon in a city about 35 miles away, Maps claiming I had called it 2 weeks ago. But I haven't called it -- the number isn't in my call history so even if I managed to randomly butt dial, that hasn't happened. What gives? Is it possible my number was spoofed and somehow Fi thinks the call was made by me?
