MMIX is created by Prof. Knuth purely for expressing his algorithms. Back then C++ and Java were the latest, hottest sh... (and would soon be outdated themselves). Prof. Knuth didn't like C++ and general programming language fashion. So he invented MMIX. It was never meant to be implemented in real HW.
I don't know whst's wrong with the other CPU architectures you listed. I especially wonder why Sparc wasn't used more.

I don't know of an industry company who builds truely libre hardware. Only half-libre if you are willing to call it so.
Which region are you willing to work in?

I definitely think that capitalism harms and should be ended. And right-wing is even much worse than capitalism.
Far left means communism and anarchism, right?
Assumed a moderate socialism is possible, how could it be organized? As a market soxialism (as the Wikipedia article describes)? Union-driven?

"Alternative gaming" comes to my mind. But "Underground" fits well.
I'm a bit worried about the far left.

I think anything that harms humans, animals or the environment should be forbidden! But people cry out for freedom. As if there was a right do harm others! Because of this attitude I'm not a liberal anymore.

I myself eat less meat and plan to finally reduce it to zero. And I think it matters both for the environment and the animals.
But how does plant-based diet reduce waste (as the diagram seems to imply)?

We do have the green "taz" newspaper in Germany. But the mainstream media, especially the "Bild", do indeed a bad propaganda to the masses. I don't like general cop-bashing and such but I feel the urge to vomit when the politicians talk about economic growth. Or when our chancellor says we can't save the climate with abstinence/refraining ("Verzicht"). In contrast I think we can't save the climate WITHOUT abstinence/refraining!

Hehe, ok. I think it is not done enough to stop global warming. Maybe my writing "It is not ignored" gave such a wrong impression. But we have a climate initiative in my town's politics, including the mayor. We have newspaper articles about climate change, and I don't mean about the "Last generation". We have the city's supplier for energy, busses, water etc. doing climate actions.
Edit: We have a climate protection minister. So it is NOT ignored.
PeterLinuxer 1 year ago • 50%
"100% have ignored" Yeah sure, then you don't read newspapers. It is not ignored.
PeterLinuxer 1 year ago • 60%
As @sexy_peach@feddit.de said, there is "Last Generation" here in Germany, too. And as you said about Italy, here they are doing more harm than good for climate protection. People who are already convinced that we need urgent climate action like the last generation. But they don't need to be convinced because they already are. And the people who are not fully convinced, they get very angry about the climate movement. In Berlin an ambulance on duty was hindered by the "Klimakleber" (climate gluers) who glue their hand to the street.

If the ecological costs would exist as financial costs for the companies, that would help a lot. Right now it is cheap to throw away poisonous waste, ship stuff from far away countries etc.
And I think you hit an important point when you said that the average consumer doesn't reflect much.
PeterLinuxer 2 years ago • 100%
Next steps? Hard to tell for me. We need to convince the climate change deniers/ignorants. Because we don't need to convince people already on our side. (But maybe I'm wrong.) I think demonstrations, sit ins and occupations are not very helpful because they don't persuade people, they rather make them hostile to us. So I'd love to hear new ideas from "The Third Force".

XR UK thinks that there's no more use in small street activism.
But I'm not sure how "The Third Force" is gonna succeed against passive established people.

And you, @i18nde, do you speak Chinese?
PeterLinuxer 2 years ago • 100%
Unfortunately I don't understand Chinese. I have for example trouble with the 4 different intonations of a syllable (rising, falling etc.).
I have read the Analects in German both translated from James Legge's English text and from Richard Wilhelm. Both have its strength and weaknesses.
And yes, Richard Wilhelm's Tao Te King is not very taoistic in some aspects. He uses terms from concucianism and/or christianity. He uses terms like sense, meaning and law where the original text probably meant way, flow, nature.
PeterLinuxer 2 years ago • 100%
As always in the Chinese culture, it is hard to tell what part is Taoist thinking, what Confucianist or even Buddhist … that’s the way it is – all mixed up.
Yeah, I, too, think that's true with Chinese culture. For example I Ging: Is it Confucian? I know it predates Confucius but the I Ging oracle is a very important part of Confucianism afaik. Or is it Taoistic (obviously)? Or take Chan buddhism which has absorbed a lot of Taoism.
One text I loved very much is "The rebels (or robbers) of Liang Shan moore (or Po)". I guess it is very taoistic, but I'm not sure about that. Unfortunately I can't find a reference on English wikipedia and on the net. I am sure there is both because there's even a TV series about it.
PeterLinuxer 2 years ago • 100%
Yes, Chinese philosophers in school would be cool. (Rhyme not intented.)
What I can't make much sense of, is the Tao te king and Sun Tsu's Art of War. Tao te king has wonderful chapters but others are totally cryptic to me and some (even worse for me) teach to abandon all moral (which is very taoistic but against my view of the world).
PeterLinuxer 2 years ago • 100%
The analects doesn't mention any negative thing about women afaik. And Confucius is said to have had female pupils.
But yeah, he's a dead serious person. Rigid and unflexible. "If the eating mat wasn't straight, he didn't eat." Also he is said to have shown not much love to his son.
I don't like taoism very much.
The Analects (Lun Yu) is a famous book from Confucius (Kungtse). I love it but I think it isn't the final answer to everything. I understand why taoists laugh about him but I appreciate his rigid morals.
Richard Wilhelm was a German sinologist who translated several texts to German. For example I ging, Tao te king, Secret of the Golden Flower, Analects. In my opinion he gave great care for understanding the Chinese culture, not just viewing it through Western prejudices.
The concept of "burgeois" seems too simplistic to me. What about a "small" employee who buys shares (not from the company he's working for but some others). And what about a one-person-company without any employee?

Hey anyone here on /c/communalism? What does social ecology mean?
Hi all! What software do you use? And is it as simple as you would like, or do you have to make compromises? I do a lot of compromises. I use: Linux kernel, Xubuntu distro, jwm, Mousepad (editor), Thunar, xfce4-term, Chromium. I am slowly learning how to use Mutt, Arch Linux, Netsurf and perhaps Hurd or Haiku. Greetings Peter

The motivation change might come from a) situation like sleep, nutrition, noise, concentration b) psychichal disease/illness c) your personality
It could be depression, psychosis, ADS but also a "scanner personality" etc. For mental health only a psychiatrist is competent. For personality a psychologist (or maybe a therapeut). For general health (body) and situation you yourself are the person which is responsible.
And yes, I have that, too. My personal solution (not neccessarily the right one for you) is to carefully select a few projects and concentrate on them. How this helps? It prevents me from hopping from one thing to the other.
Try cycling the exam topics for a change/versality.
One more comment: If you aren't able to concentrate or focus on the exams then get professional help soon!

Let me introduce a really cool fantasy novel: "A Wizard of Earthsea" is about magic, its power and its sources. The main character is Ged, who is told about, starting from his childhood until he rises to power. It is narrated vividly. The description of the magical school and the diverse sources of magic is entertaining. Greetings Peter

Hi all roleplayers! I liked to play some MMORPGs (at least for a while), for example Runescape. But I stopped playing it for two reasons: (a) A player can and must develop every skill. (b) It doesn't run on Linux. What MMORPG did/do you enjoy? Perhaps Runescape, too? Or maybe WoW? Greetings Peter
I want to recommend to you the novel "Rivers of London" (In USA "Midnight Riot"). It's "Urban Fantasy", namely about a magic cop in the contemporary England. The main protagonist is Peter Grant, a black cop. He is the apprentice of Nightingale, the only legal magician in England.
