It's 100% Hoid. There's a few lines in Chapter 5 where ::: spoiler SP3 Chapter 5 and Epilogue the narator is talking about how they did the lightweaving to make Design look human, and how they're frozen in time and used as the coat rack. Hoid unfreezes at the end in the second epilogue before he and Design leave the planet. :::

I went last year for The Lost Metal, and it was great! Already picked up badges for this year, just need to get my hotel booked still.

Overall it was a great time, there was a good mix of smaller panels that were both spoiler and non-spoiler, and big events in the main auditorium.

I wasn't there for Dragonsteel 2021, but with the bigger size of 2022 there were definitely some small growing pains. I liked the survey they did afterwards though, and as long as they listen to feedback 2023 should be great!

Probably a good time to start a Skyward reread as well now that I think about it.

Yeah, with theory crafting it can be pretty difficult. My favorite question, especially when she's on the right track, is just "What makes you think that?" so I can feel out what she's picked up and what she missed.

[Mistborn Hero of Ages spoilers] Listening to audiobooks with your spouse

Hero of Ages spoilers towards the bottom, markup may not work if you're using Jerboa. I've never been much of an audiobook person, switching back and forth between physical copies and e-books depending on the situation. However on a recent road trip my wife and I started listening to Mistborn on Audible together. We're now a few chapters into Well of Ascension and I have to say it's been an amazing experience, and has really enhanced things for both of us. It's fascinating getting to hear real time takes on different characters and scenes, as well as theory crafting. Some not very accurate, some right on the nose. We're currently on chapter five of WoA and... ::: spoiler Hero of Ages spoilers after a second recounting of Vin's mother killing her sister and piercing Vin's ear, she wondered aloud if that might have something to do with how much more powerful than a normal mistborn Vin seems to be. ::: Has anyone else had similar experiences with listening to the Audiobooks with someone? The biggest issue we've encountered is finding ways to break up sessions when getting close to the end of the book, even listening on 1.2x speed the Sanderlanche of The Final Empire is still 4-6 hours long.

I saw a recommendation in a thread on /r/books over at reddit actually! I started reading around the time of Words of Radiance, and went through things pretty slowly in a relatively unintuitive order:

    • Way of Kings
    • Words of Radiance
    • The Final Empire
    • Warbreaker
    • Oathbringer
    • The rest of Mistborn Era 1
    • Elantris
    • Rhythm of War
    • Mistborn Era 2 (Up to BoM)
    • Arcanum Unbounded
    • The Lost Metal (Went to Dragonsteel 2022 for this!)

Since I've caught up I've gotten probably a half dozen people to start reading, and have been carefully curating their reading order to avoid the nonsense I went through.

Yeah, seems you're right. Looks like the spoiler tag works in the web browser, but not Jerboa. Definitely a much needed feature.

Hey! So this community is intended to discuss novels written by Brandon Sanderson, a massively popular fantasy author. He has several series, such as Mistborn and the Stormlight Archive which are set in a shared universe called the Cosmere. The community might still be a bit niche for Lemmy, but with the surge in new users (Myself included) I figured it would be worth creating communities like this.

If you've never read any of his work though, I'd highly recommend trying it out! He tends to write very character driven fantasy novels, characterized by very detailed magic systems. They're relatively easy reads compared to some more dense authors such as George R.R. Martin or Patrick Rothfuss, but still have phenomenal plots and payoff.

A good place to start if you're looking for something easy to hop into is a novella called The Emperors Soul. It can be read completely standalone, is short enough to finish in an afternoon, and won a Hugo award for Best Novella the year it was released. Another good place would be the first Mistborn novel, The Final Empire, which is part of a trilogy.

    Welcome to /c/cosmere!

I wasn't able to find an existing community for Cosmere fans on Lemmy yet, so figured I'd get one spun up. For now I dropped some basic spoiler guidelines in the sidebar, namely to tag posts with the book being discussed, and tag any comments discussing spoilers outside the book stated in the title. If the community winds up growing we can spin it out to more dedicated communities such as Mistborn, Stormlight, etc. But for now everything can just be lumped together here!
