I'm not sure if someone was trying to figure out ways to increase their profitability to avoid getting bought out, or if they were trying to increase their value to make buying them out a more attractive deal, or what.. but there was definitely a whole lot of "wtf are they thinking?" moves at Paramount, just as there were at HBO a year or so ago.
They were definitely flinging options at walls to try to get some kind of effect. But they were doing it with no apparent rhyme nor reason, at least to us out here.
I suspect we'll see another round of readjustments if/when Skydance gets their merger handled. I suspect there's people over there just chomping at the bit to get their hands deep in some Trek productions.

Yeah, it might be just slightly higher quality than the broadcasts originally were, but not much.

On rewatch, I wonder if he was on the way to suggesting someone like Book when he was interrupted
Agree with this, it seemed like he was using Book for context, not for a real suggestion. Saru respects what Booker has done for everyone, but I don't think he's a real big fan of the guy, and certainly doesn't think he should be the XO of a Federation ship.
I could be wrong, though

wouldn't the Romulans entering the neutral zone also be an act of war, though? that's kinda the point of a neutral zone -- neither side can enter.

Collectively, each of the races in Star Trek have their own thing that they do. Individually, some lean more into it than others, but that's the way they go, pretty much.

" … delinquents, pirates, slave traders." (DSC s1e15, although the same perception about Orions is held throughout Star Trek).
It seems that Orion culture internally looks down on those who want to be in the sciences, but it's Tendi's grandmother that shows the galaxy that they are not all just pirates. Some several years after DSC S1, in SNW S2.

The message, I think, is "When Spock tells you you're being an asshole, stop doubling down on being an asshole, or you lose it all".
Or more generally, "This is an example of being an asshole. Don't be like this."

In terms of our current computers, you're probably looking at something like yottabytes .. but they don't seem to store things in bytes at this point, as others say, quads. Which could mean that they've knocked the basic storage unit size from 'byte' to '4 bytes' ... A current 64-bit system can address 16 exabytes of memory, but if you were to knock that upward by an exponent of 4, you could address 65k exabytes, or 0.06 yottabytes.
That's if we're talking about memory capacities. Warm storage capability / use tends to be significantly larger than memory use, so I'd hazard a guess that the total storage capacity of a starship's computers might be in the area of a few yottabytes.
This is assuming that "quad" is used because more space was required for memory architecture, and rather than upgrade to 128-bit or 256-bit computers, necessitating a huge amount of code refactoring, they just increased the minimum storage length. Of course, that would also realistically require a huge amount of code refactoring, but we're all just making stuff up here, right? :D

Some of the UAW's demands are pretty awful. If they get a lot of that, they'll be back to threatening to bankrupt the automakers again. Hopefully they'll hit somewhere inbetween, with good wage increases, but this whole "require an automaker to pay members for volunteer work if it closes the plant in their community" ... what in the hell even? and pensions are a stranglehold on a business, that is a practice that has to end.
Will the UAW continue to oppose health care reforms? That's my big question.
Part of why we are the way we are in this country, is because of the UAW and the Teamsters, and the UFCW, and probably others, opposing critical healthcare reforms, and demanding these pensions... instead of demanding that everyone get healthcare and the ability to survive in their retirement.
But, no, the unions need those benefits to their members, otherwise why would their members want the unions? (that's their whole way of thinking...)
For the most part, the UAW opposes doing things for the public good, if they think they can force the automakers to do them instead.

Section 31 speed walking!
I own 2 98's and a 97, the first 98 is now a parts car. Here's my most recent acquisition, I've had it about a year now.
Just grabbed the first part on DVD, as everyone's sold out of Blu-Rays, and I don't even own a functional BR player... plenty of third-party sellers on Amazon seem to have it in stock, whereas Amazon's got it marked as "shipping in 1-2 months" which likely means they are out of stock and hoping to get more, which might not happen. I'd like to have the rest of it, but I suppose there's always sailing the seas for it.

Yes, you read that wrong :-) Normally if I'm out, I'm either at one of the casinos, or a rock/metal/alt show at a bar, but every now and then, such as when wanting a 'classy' spot to take a date :-) i'd like to find some old school class, with some horns. Trumpets, saxes, trombones, and so on. Someone today suggested Cliff Bell's, downtown, to me. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

... i caught them finding an open box for the first time that I'm aware of ... so adorable Sox found it first, sniffed around, then jumped in, and Nox came running like OMG WHAT THE HELL IS THAT IT ATE SOX, and then he realized it was ok, and he forced his way in, and she had to go up.
The sub says post pictures, but I'm hoping discussion is Ok too :) Situation: Have had a cat (Barney) for about 10 years. We brought a second cat into the house that we rescued off the street (Lou) back in 2019, but Lou was not well, and passed away in 2020. Barney mostly ignored Lou, but would occasionally get kind of close to him. If Lou approached Barney, Barney would just walk away and watch him from a distance. Had to rescue a pair of young cats (about a year old when we got them fixed in January, the vet said), Nox and Sox. They've been in the house since late March or early April. Barney constantly hisses at them if he sees them, runs far, far away. This attracts the interest of the youngsters, who come running to him to check him out, and this *always* starts a fight. When the fight begins, Barney runs away as fast as possible, screaming and ejecting as much fur as possible (i didn't know cats could do that, but apparently they can... ) How do I help them to co-exist in the same house? We kept them apart for almost 3 months, and tried to introduce Barney slowly to them once they were comfortable with the environment, but he wants absolutely nothing to do with them so long as they exist. I don't know what to do :(
