Even more!
From their Facebook page: “New single premieres early this Wednesday, Sept 11 over at Heavy Blog is Heavy! Available on all streaming platforms Friday, Sept 13.”
More "title track on S/T"
Another, another!
Light on certified tech this week, but some good ones - [Corpse Worship - Cemetery Anthems (Russia)](https://coyoterecords.bandcamp.com/album/cemetery-anthems) (not really tech, but pretty cool) - [Grimaze - The Heart of a Collapsing Star (Bulgaria)](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw1mEbkjhv8euQQ2iBPlZXArjB4rgOoQY&si=L4ZZlTfyRToZy2JV)
Another "title track from eponymous release" example!

Lmao right? See also: Aethere, Aethereus, Aetherius, and Aetherian
How’d everyone like the new Vale? I see what people are saying about the stylistic shift, but this is still sick

From the band via Facebook: Whispered among worms were the rumors of a new album by death metal outfit Carnosus. Heavier and darker, slithering its way from Örebro, Sweden, comes Wormtales, a prequel to the critically acclaimed 2023 album, Visions of Infinihility. Wormtales contains some of the band's most impressive riffs thus far and once again lures the listener into the realm of infinihility. Release date: October 18 on Willowtip Records Track Listing: 1. Birthless 2. Within Throat, Within Heart 3. Neglectikon 4. Yearnings of A Rotten Spine 5. Worm Charmer 6. Harbinger of Woundism 7. Paradoxical Impulse 8. Wound of Wisdom 9. Cosmoclaustrum 10. Solace In Soil Credits: Recorded and produced by Carnosus (except drums; recorded and produced by Robert Kukla & Dennis Rosic). Re-amped, mixed and mastered by Robert Kukla at Obsidian Recording Studios. Cover artwork by Timon Kokott.
- [Carnophage - Matter of a Darker Nature (Turkey)](https://carnophage.bandcamp.com/album/matter-of-a-darker-nature) (brutal tech) - [Parasitic Entity - Artificial Hell Construct [EP] (UK-ENG)](https://parasiticentity.bandcamp.com/album/artificial-hell-construct)

Ooh sounds like a fun watch!
Choco617 2 months ago • 100%
Well that was super cool, exciting exposure too.
- Space Corpse (or Spacecorpse?) - Shapeshifter [EP] (USA-CO) - [Valsa Pintura - Plénitude [EP] (France) (instrumental tech)](https://valsapintura.bandcamp.com/album/pl-nitude) Also, don't forget to catch Gojira playing the Olympic opening ceremony in a couple hours! Bonus - misc eye-catching new releases since I last posted, listed loosely in reverse order of release: - Abiosis - Hollowing the Mortal Form - Serpentslain - Cognitive Dissonance [EP] - August Mayhem - Incredulity (arguably deathcore) - Commander - Angstridden (very groovy, ffo Griefgod, Eye of Horus) - Lynchpin - ...This Mortal Coil [EP] - Fallujah - The Flesh Prevails 10 year anniversary remix/remaster (I haven't done a close enough A:B listen to understand the difference, but damn is TFP a great album) - Helvetskval - Hjarnspoken - Abandon Agony - Dark Matter [EP] - Replacire - The Center That Cannot Hold - Severe Torture - Torn from the Jaws of Death (not tech, but gotta love these DM kings) - The Fallen - S/T (arguably *core) - Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God
I promise I’m not dead, just very busy with both work stuff and life stuff. Thanks to other posters for contributing content to the community! I definitely don’t intend to be the primary poster long-term lol
Light on proper tech this week, here's a mix of tangentially related stuff that might be worthwhile - [Diminish the Gods - Exopaedian (AUS-NSW) (I've been waiting for this for over a year, haven't listened yet but should be good for tech/core enthusiasts)](https://diminishthegods.bandcamp.com/album/exopaedian) - [A Karmic Gray - Ghosts of Times Obscure (USA-OH)](https://akarmicgray.bandcamp.com/album/ghosts-of-times-obscure) - [Shitkluster - Shitocracy (USA-KY)](https://shitkluster.bandcamp.com/album/shitocracy) - Xenocide - S/T [EP] (USA-IL)
Weird prog-death goodness out soon
Whitechapel - The Saw Is the Law (USA-TN, 2014) Obviously, any metal with "death" in the genre name never ends up literally on the radio. But some singles are catchy in a way that feels like a radio jam. This is one of my best examples of that, alongside Aversions Crown - Hollow Earth and Carnifex - Pray For Peace
Oops late one this week - [Blasteroid - Crypts of Mind (Greece)](https://blasteroid24.bandcamp.com/album/crypts-of-mind) (ffo Mastodon, but deathier than that) - [Cutterred Flesh - Love at First Bite (Czechia)](https://cutterredfleshband.bandcamp.com/album/love-at-first-bite) (again, NYP right now) - [Esodic - De Facto De Jure [EP] (Jordan)](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_k74Ls78WiwoToGFZI40ZowvEpQYI55YIs) (death/thrash, and the first Jordanian band that's come to my attention) - [Vale of Pnath - Between the Worlds of Life and Death (USA-CO)](https://valeofpnath.bandcamp.com/album/between-the-worlds-of-life-and-death)
Who's stoked for more Vale? I see what people are saying about the stylistic shift, but this is still sick
Who else is ready for more Cutterred Flesh? Official release date seems to be tomorrow, but Bandcamp is showing it's currently NYP? Anyway, this opener has me sold
From clicking around, it seems to be that all existing releases are name-your-price, and preorders are $1. Definitely give this a look - here is a sample of albums that appear for me as NYP: - The Last of Lucy - Godform (yes, the new one, super sick) - Replicant - Infinite Mortality (also quite new) - Dyssebeia - Garden of Stillborn Idols - Arborescence of Wrath - Inferno (underrated af) - Orphalis - As the Ashes Settle And some head-turning $1 preorders: - Carnophage - Matter of a Darker Nature - Cutterred Flesh - Love at First Bite - Februus - Surveillance Orgy

That’s good to know: I don’t know Gorod as well as I should, and I picked this track pretty hastily

Hell yeah Snarky Puppy! And I’d never heard of Forq before, thanks for sharing. Always cracks me up to make those discoveries: we’re both here for metal, but also both enjoy upbeat modern jazz like that too

Aw Volbeat. Makes me think of Lola Montez, been a long time lol

Yeah agreed, reminds me a bit of the voicemail intro to Archspire’s A.U.M.

Maaaaaan - this is what’s cool about the huge umbrella that is metal. It includes the stuff I always post on this community, yes, your JFAC, your Carnosus, relentless techy wankery. But it also includes beautiful operatic melodic metal like this. The guitar work makes me want to go explore the ruins of a temple, and the vocals make me want to soar above it. This is what Mods Are Drunk Friday is for, thanks for sharing
Choco617 5 months ago • 100%
I can’t decide if this’d be better with Stu Block hair metal vocals, or unintelligible slam vocals, but I’m here for it either way
Choco617 5 months ago • 100%
Yeah same here, I’m not too good at identifying tech/black/prog/melo/core elements, I just go for what sounds good. Hell yeah Esoteric Malacology, love Crop Killer. Tomb Mold is good too, but I know Planetary Clairvoyance better than The Enduring Spirit. The others are new to me, so I’ll check those out, thanks!
Choco617 5 months ago • 100%
Nice! Yeah that’s true. I’m always down to explore though. What are some of your favorite blackened death releases? Maybe maybe I’ll queue up a Black[ened] Friday tomorrow
Choco617 5 months ago • 100%
Glad you like! Tbh I posted it just because everyone’s talking about this album, but it hasn’t really resonated with me. I’ll have to give it another shot

Iiiiiii have not listened to Nightwish in a decade or two, but I would love to revisit, thank you for resharing. Reminds me of how I used to use Dimmu Borgir - Sympozium as an alarm lmao
Choco617 5 months ago • 100%
Ugh that’s really tough, they’re both solid. I agree about the slight edge to Moon Healer. It’s just hard to set aside how big a stylistic change Sun Water had been from previous releases, how much Jonny’s vocal range had expanded, etc. Felt really fresh at the time. But goddamn, Agony Seeping Storm…
Choco617 5 months ago • 100%
Ok awesome. Well welcome to the community! Feel free to post whatever you like, I’m pretty liberal with genre bounds, so a little black/prog/melodic/core creeps in a lot of the time. My main focus is music discovery, including for myself, so I’ll definitely check out Underdark and Agriculture, those are not names I’ve heard. JFAC has been a favorite forever, so I’ll talk about them all day long lol
Choco617 5 months ago • 100%
Hell yeah, glad you agree. Let me know if you have any similar bands to recommend, I’m on a kick. So far I’ve got Eye of Horus (latest album anyway, Noxium), Fallen Utopia, and sort of Aviscerus, Scent of Death, and Ignominious Incarceration.

Somewhat late post this week, but man oh man I've been absolutely drunk on the quality releases! I was super excited for Hour of Penance (excellent, I can tell I'll be playing this a lot over the coming weeks), but then stunned at newcomers Jet Engine Dragons, and how hadn't I heard about Burn Down Eden or Monastery Dead until now?! I also only just discovered Orecus on my tour through Sweden (musical, not literal), and now they have a new one - groovy af.
Choco617 6 months ago • 100%
Oh shit, that’s great to hear, thanks! Music-discovery is the main goal, so please always feel free to post anything you’re excited about too: I’m just as eager to find new stuff myself :)

TIL it’s a Nosferatu concept album! Probably shoulda gathered that from the album art…
Choco617 6 months ago • 100%
Totally fair, and a fun thing about the tech side of things is that the instruments are doing plenty of interesting work, even without vocals. I’d try some quality instrumental tech/prog death, like Omnivalence (criminally hard to find, for how good it is, but I think it’s on YouTube), Blotted Science (somewhat more old-school sound), Sleep Terror (progressive and a little humorous, their latest Railroad to Dystopia is killer, and Screams of Tenerife off a previous one is an absolute jam), Essence of Datum, Myth of I… I don’t wanna give you too much to start with, but there’s plenty to get into, lmk what strikes a chord.
Ooh and honorable mention: I love Carnosus, and they recently released an instrumental version of their latest album, calling it Visions of Instrumentahility.

Totally. Love their recent sound, anything with Stevie is A-ok with me

At the time, I was just disappointed it wasn’t more Doom. Since my tastes have shifted towards technical death metal, my main complaint from memory is that it isn’t dynamic or varied enough. But listening again this week, I expect it to be better than I remembered

Yeah! Interesting how many different approaches there are to metal album art. I don’t see a lot of “abstract art” examples like this one, but it’s really captivating
Choco617 7 months ago • 100%
Ok that’s cool as shit, would satisfy a mean djent hankering. It’s sorta of the opposite of what you’d expect: a guitarist playing with programmed drums
Choco617 7 months ago • 100%
Yeah! Reclaimer really grabbed me when that came out. Ben Duerr can at once demonstrate that he’s one of the best vocalists in deathcore and also not overdo the “look at me” theatrics that can turn people off of the genre
