That copy of Separation Anxiety was probably published in 2016.

There are an almost infinite amount of stories. Especially in the early-mid 90s. The editors liked to make sure there was some level of continuity and those little asterisks ( *read about this in xxxxx) are mainly a way for people to understand there’s more to read.

It’s not necessarily essential, you typically will just assume what has happened elsewhere, and comic subtext was NOT subtle (especially in the 80s and 90s!), sometimes the character will just completely summarise that plot from elsewhere in a thought bubble.

But it can lead you down a rabbit hole of linking a bunch of different books and stories together.

I have 5 minutes to have a shower if I’m lucky, so this morning it goes like this.

    Head under the hot water.

Lather some soap, just the bar of soap in the shower - rub it all over my head.

Grab the Sledgehammer with last weeks permasharp still in, hope that I remembered to dry it last time…

No blood and cuts, feels smooth, and I’m already running late for work.

Get dressed, bop on a couple fingers of Noble Otter Space post shave and go wake the kids up before I leave.

It’s Friday and there were only two people in the office today anyway.

Absolutely. Look at Aeon. I turn it on and do what I need to do.

Later I might see a quick pop up that says system has been updated. It didn’t require intervention. It didn’t even tell me it was happening, it just informed me after the fact.

If anything broke, I would never know because on the next boot if something failed it just uses the previous snapshot to boot. As far as I am concerned the system is working just like it always has.

But even as recently as this week I see people saying: immutable? No don’t make it a bad experience for them! Just recommend Ubuntu for newcomers! >:/

Absolutely. A few months after this I went directly to the person above my boss and explained the situation- mental health, physical health, turned into dependence on weekly psychologist sessions.

Basically told me to get over it.

This was a non profit organisation dedicated to helping homeless, refugees, victims of domestic violence, and elderly people who are unable to afford aged care. The people on the ground doing the work were amazing people. But the people in charge were all cosplaying as big business shitheads.

Shit job from 10 years ago. Getting too drunk at the office Christmas party and talking so much shit about my horrible fucking boss to a couple of influential senior managers who are close to the CFO. Freaked out all weekend about it, severe anxiety attacks. That mixed with the hangover I was just vomiting all weekend.

And then: Run into one of those senior managers early in the office on Monday morning, apologised for being inappropriate. Get a response “oh, we all know how bad she is, can’t believe you haven’t quit yet”.

I was owed 30 cents or something by a TelCo about 20 years ago. So they sent me an invoice stating the debt every month. I asked them if they can just cut me a cheque or something and they said they wouldn’t for such a small amount.

So I received a -30c payable invoice monthly for years until the company went out of business.

I use the Steam controller, (obviously not helpful since they don’t make it anymore) most of the time.

I also have the remake of the old Xbox “duke” from a few years back. The largeness of it in my smaller hands always felt surprisingly comfortable. It’s wired and recognised as generic xbox one controller - BUT only when running steam. If steam isn’t open, then the controller continuously turns off and back on every 20 seconds.

I have a few DS4 controllers sitting here that still work. Eh. Not much use but they work fairly well. I don’t really like the PlayStation control design.

I have never tried a Switch / Switch-compatible controller on yet. My partner has a couple for.. the Switch! But I’m hoping they do well because I just bought my daughter a Sonic-themed, Gamecube-style wired controller for her upcoming birthday (she obsessed with Sonic and saying she wants to play a game one day instead of just watching). It would be good if she can just take it between playing Switch with her mum or PC with me.

Final comments -it’s wired or replaceable batteries for me. So many dead DS3 and DS4 controllers sitting around from years back that won’t charge, or last about 15 minutes. But wires never get in the way anyway, and I always have eneloop AAs ready to go.

Trick or treating isn’t so much of a thing in Australia, even though the idea of Halloween and dressing up has become more popular.

Anyway, no one has ever done it in our neighbourhood, but just in case I buy a bag of chupa chups in October in case anyone knocks on the door.

Couldn’t say enough good things about his wrestling run in the 90s.

Made late WCW way better. I was big on his feud with Goldberg, and the sudden swerve where they teamed up was one of my favourite WCW moments.

Doll house Christmas present (bit late posting!) https://lemmy.sdf.org/pictrs/image/fd0b694f-d4b3-4dac-ba9c-d6dca04c5ed5.png

I’m not active enough of an internet guy to remember to actually post stuff - so we’re going back 6 months… I surprised my daughter (and the entire family) on Christmas morning when they found this waiting in the living room. I hadn’t told my partner I’d been working on anything, kept it quiet. It’s all just pine, dressed all round. Had to go buy a cheap and nasty jigsaw to cut the doors and opening between floors since my coping saw broke whilst trying to work this (handle snapped clean off, thanks Stanley) The roof- cut at an angle, turned one piece over and glued it. Then stood like a statue holding it for half an hour pressing it against the ground until it dried enough. Couldn’t think of any other way to hold it tight at that angle -_- The floors and balcony are all slotted into through dados. Cut, chiseled and then cleaned up a bit with trim router. And I hate so much working pine with chisels! (I’ve since got a bigger router bit that would have made this much easier) Finished with water based Jarrah stain, with water based acrylic paint on the roof and “bathroom”. Some of that finish is _really_ sloppy, I was still out there late on Christmas Eve trying to get the last few coats on. A leftover sheet of mdf (think about 5mm) just painted and nailed in as the back wall. There’s a little set of stairs on the ground floor finished with dark carnauba wax. There’s also a little rope ladder going up to the top floor - was from our pet bird who had left us recently. A whole mish mash of different ideas here, but I just wanted to make something fun and interesting for my daughter. For what I wanted to do for her first big Christmas (just turned 3), this turned out better than I thought I could do. ![](https://lemmy.sdf.org/pictrs/image/0bbb718d-7c65-4e1b-8820-1a9668642b0e.png)

    New bed for my daughter

Finally completed a bed for my 3 year old daughter. This was my first project in 20 years, so it’s taken me about 9 months of relearning techniques, practicing, finding the right tools, and just finding time really. Originally was just M&T and half lap joins, but when setting up I decided it was a little too wiggly so I put 38mm and 17mm angle brackets to reinforce it. Mostly construction lumber from local hardware shop. A few pieces “feature pieces”, Blackbutt and Macrocarpa. Finished with walrus furniture oil. The slats were cut down from someone selling off pieces of their bed on marketplace.
