How are you feeling, Lemmy Gooners?
[Youtube link](https://youtu.be/watch?v=hmhq_PJeP20), because Invidious is a bit flaky right now. The album came out a year ago, but even though they are from the city I live in (Melbourne), I just discovered them today. I like the sound of this track and have queued the rest of the album to have a listen to. Here's what [a review](https://www.abc.net.au/listen/doublej/music-reads/features/bigsound-2024-highlights-wade-forster-belair-lip-bombs-juice/103500896) I read said about them: >Frankston's The Belair Lip Bombs deliver their genuinely unique brand of left-field indie rock with complete poise. > >At one moment you'll hear shades of Interpol and The Smiths, at others they hint at PJ Harvey and Best Coast. Ultimately, the band's infectious take on a well-traversed genre is their own. > >They will have truly cross-generational appeal, giving their younger peers the kind of guitar-driven indie rock many of them crave, and offering older fans something fresh that still taps into something a little nostalgic. > >They're honestly a band too difficult to describe, but one that indie rock fans must be across. They've already signed to Jack White's Third Man Records, so now is the time to get on board.

I just got around to listening to this. I like it. Thanks!
I still have a few music mags from the 1990s on my shelf. Juice (Australia), Lime Lizard (UK), Vox (UK), Rolling Stone (Australia), Puncture (USA) What music magazines did/do you buy? Alt text for image: This image shows a collection of 1990s alternative music and culture magazines spread out on a wooden surface. The magazines include multiple issues of "Lime Lizard," "Vox," "Juice," and others like "Puncture" and "Rolling Stone." The covers feature various musicians and bands popular in the alternative and grunge scenes of the era, with bold typography and striking portrait photography. The overall aesthetic is very characteristic of 90s rock and alternative culture, with a mix of colorful and monochrome designs. This collection provides a nostalgic glimpse into the music journalism and visual style of that period. Michael Hutchence (INXS), Nick Cave, Harriet Wheeler (The Sundays), Hole, Lush, Whitney Houston, Carter USM, The Shamen, Kristin Hersh and Angie Hart (Frente!).

Holy crap. You are not wrong when you say it's graphic, OP. I just had a listen to a couple of Hana Vu tracks and have put her latest album in my listen queue.
I have just stumbled across this band.
I just found out that the band have reformed.

My pleasure!
This song got played a heap on the office stereo where I worked, at the time.
Catchy tune from this Sydney band!
I saw JH and her band when she toured the album _Only Everything_. Arguably, when she at the height of her powers. Good TV performance of Universal Heart-Beat, this.

From the debut album _The Troubles And Trevails Of Orphan Mae_.
A while back, [I posted a song](https://lemmy.world/post/6969595) from The Spinanes’ debut, 1993 album. Kid In Candy is the lead track from their third and final album from 1998. I like it.

Took me a little bit to get used to the idea. If he is fit and remains fit 🤞, the financial details are right, and he comes with a point to prove, I’m down with it. Particularly if we can give B some rest and also present some different attacking options.
I read this article that talks about how Pochettino combined him with RB/RWB, to good effect against ‘pool. Seems cromulent.

I read a piece recently that made a good case for Eddie being one of the most successful Academy graduates that Arsenal has produced. Which makes sense, if you think about it.
Good luck Dide.

“I’m realising a dream in my life, a dream come true, and I’m really, really happy.
I had two dreams as a kid to play for a football team. It was my team in Brazil, where I grew up and became a professional footballer, and also Arsenal. And now I’m realising it! I’m a really lucky person.
To all the supporters of Arsenal, I’d just like to say I’m one more fan here. My dream has come true, I’m really happy. Depend on me, I’ll give more than 100% to give everything for Arsenal.”

🚨🔴⚪️ Bad news for Arsenal as Mikel Merino is injured.
“He has a shoulder injury and it looks like he will be out for a few weeks”.
“He landed on the floor and Gabi landed on top of him, it's a fracture probably”, Arteta says
This is the original version of the song covered by The Breeders on *Last Splash*, a few years later. Carrie from Ed's later toured with The Breeders for some time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed%27s_Redeeming_Qualities

This short-lived Flying Nun Records band was led by "the punk rock self-belief" of Shayne Carter, who went on to play and release music as part of [Doublehappys](https://lemmy.world/post/6632430), [Straitjacket Fits](https://lemmy.world/post/6633244), Dimmer, The Adults (a Kiwi supergroup), with NZ post-punk luminary, Peter Jefferies and solo as Shayne P. Carter. I like the youthful energy of the song, even though it sounds like it was recorded in a burlap sack! This is the [full run down](https://www.flyingnun.co.nz/blogs/man-on-the-verge-of-a-nervous-breakdown/the-story-of-bored-games-1982-ep-who-killed-colonel-mustard) about the EP that this track is from. It was re-issued for Record Store Day, a few years ago.

I wonder if she likes them now? I say this because, I'm sure it's a thing that people who used to think you/I were weird back then, will nowadays swear blind that they liked that stuff the whole time and that there was never a time they didn't like it. In a slightly Orwellian way.

A breezy slice of indie rock/pop from Singapore's [Sobs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sobs_(band)). I don't know much more about them, but note that they also got over to Seattle, last year, to do [this session](https://yewtu.be/watch?v=YL80CgBx5uE).

The NME said at the time of its release…
Aztec Camera, the Housemartins, the Smiths and the La's – all very special groups, and now you can listen to them all at once! Perfect. Crystalline. Divine. Confident...
This is one of my favourite songs, yet I don't own any of their music, apart from the 7" single of Obscurity Knocks. I have def listened to the rest of the album *Cake* that this song is from and their other releases, via streaming, since then. The funnest fact I know about them is that The Trash Can Sinatras' Frank Reader, is the brother of Eddi Reader from Fairground Attraction. She married one of her brother's bandmates n 2013.

Out of the all the bands who are in my top 50 most listened to, The Sundays are one of the few that I was never able to see live.
last.fm tells me that I have listened to Reading, Writing and Arithmetic 110 times digitally. However, I also own physical copies on cassette, CD and vinyl. I reckon that I must have clocked up somewhere near 1000 plays by now.
Do you like their other 2 albums? They also have some very good songs that were b-sides.
I had completely forgotten about the [No Alternative compilation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Alternative), until I listened to a podcast about it the other day. I remember playing the CD a fair bit, but I don't seem to have it now. I might have borrowed it from someone and given it back. Posting this track because I was (and still am) a big fan of Kiwi bands of the era, and I was pretty stoked that The Verlaines and Straitjacket Fits, two of my favourites, were included. As far as I know, Heavy 33 didn't get a release anywhere else and only popped up later on their "Greatest" compliation.
Was lucky enough to see them play for the third time (I think), last week.
Friends. There is not enough Pixies in this Community or in your life. Go and listen to the whole of *Doolittle*, right now. That's an order.
When a great/interesting song crosses my path or pops back into my head and I feel like posting it, I always do a quick check to see if it has been posted before. In my head, I was sure that this had appeared previously…but it turns out it was [this post](https://lemmy.world/post/15608358) by [@perishthethought@lemm.ee](https://lemm.ee/u/perishthethought). This track could claim to be the official song of the Community, maybe.
If you like shoegaze and don't know this Singaporean band, you will probably like this. If you don't like 'gaze, then I can't help you. 😇 This song is a live version of the track that appeared on their 2022 album, *remember a stranger*.

A classic of Australian, early 90s, indie rock. This is from an 8 track mini album called _Octopus_. Seek out their album _Penny Century_(1991). It’s terrific.

Yes, I too think that this is what a band would sound like if Billy Corgan decided to make music like this. I didn’t quite get the same tingle of excitement with Silversun Puckups when I first heard them as I did with Smashing Pumpkins, though.
I find the songs of Edinburgh troubadour, Hamish Hawk, to be witty, quirky and tuneful. He’s got some good tunes.
From what little I know of this band, having just discovered them, their sound varies quite a lot. Dipping into their YT channel has revealed quite a range of styles. I found more than a few songs that I thought were pretty good, in different ways. As a bonus, Hitsujibungaku/羊文学 means “Sheep Literature”. Not a band name I would choose, but given it is, why not do a collab with Aardman and do [a version of the Shaun the Sheep song](https://yewtu.be/watch?v=iC1Z2aO4SdA)?
I’ve dipped into the band’s back catalogue before and enjoy the odd song or two. Here’s one from the _Physical Thrills_ album that I don’t mind.
Remaining one of my favourite nu-gaze bands. Here’s a nice vid of a song from FTH’s final album.
Many music fans will know of The Avalanches’ breakout, debut album _Since I left You_ (2000). Fewer will know that they started out as more of a noise punk band, with elements of hip hop and electronic music nudging in. They were often compared to The Beastie Boys, which is probably why I started to notice them. The 2 tracks in this clip are from their EP _El Producto_ (1998) This live performance was on a Saturday morning TV show called Recovery, on ABC TV (Australia). I was lucky enough to be at a show they played on New Year’s eve in ~~2000~~ 1998, ~~which was only a month after _Since I left You_ was first released~~. It was so good. If you get a chance, go check out [this performance](https://yewtu.be/watch?v=0vHEFwjr8dk) in the finals of the DMC World DJ Championship in ‘99. You might recognise the first record he plays, in particular. Dexta was in The Avalanches’ for a while.
Miki and her chums doing a cover of her own song that was [originally recorded by Lush](https://aussie.zone/post/3079994) in the early 90s. The other MB3 stuff sounds quite good.
