Contestant Generations by Season

I finally got caught up on season 46. After stumbling on a discussion on /r/survivor about generational^1^ participation and play styles I decided to waste a **whole bunch** of time and pulled together some data^2^. I thought it was interesting and thought I’d share. --- #### Number of contestants by generation by season | Season | Gen Z | Millennials | Gen X | Boomers | Silent | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | 1 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 3 | 3 | | 2 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 6 | 0 | | 3 | 0 | 0 | 8 | 7 | 1 | | 4 | 0 | 1 | 10 | 4 | 1 | | 5 | 0 | 0 | 11 | 4 | 1 | | 6 | 0 | 1 | 11 | 4 | 0 | | 7 | 0 | 3 | 9 | 4 | 0 | | 8 | 0 | 1 | 9 | 7 | 1 | | 9 | 0 | 3 | 11 | 3 | 1 | | 10 | 0 | 6 | 10 | 4 | 0 | | 11 | 0 | 9 | 5 | 3 | 1 | | 12 | 0 | 5 | 6 | 5 | 0 | | 13 | 0 | 4 | 13 | 3 | 0 | | 14 | 0 | 4 | 11 | 4 | 0 | | 15 | 0 | 7 | 8 | 1 | 0 | | 16 | 0 | 7 | 8 | 5 | 0 | | 17 | 0 | 8 | 6 | 4 | 0 | | 18 | 0 | 7 | 6 | 3 | 0 | | 19 | 0 | 10 | 7 | 3 | 0 | | 20 | 0 | 7 | 10 | 3 | 0 | | 21 | 0 | 8 | 6 | 5 | 1 | | 22 | 0 | 7 | 7 | 4 | 0 | | 23 | 0 | 10 | 6 | 2 | 0 | | 24 | 0 | 11 | 4 | 3 | 0 | | 25 | 0 | 11 | 3 | 4 | 0 | | 26 | 0 | 13 | 6 | 1 | 0 | | 27 | 0 | 12 | 6 | 2 | 0 | | 28 | 0 | 8 | 10 | 0 | 0 | | 29 | 0 | 12 | 4 | 2 | 0 | | 30 | 0 | 11 | 6 | 1 | 0 | | 31 | 0 | 9 | 8 | 3 | 0 | | 32 | 1 | 11 | 4 | 1 | 1 | | 33 | 1 | 10 | 8 | 1 | 0 | | 34 | 0 | 12 | 6 | 2 | 0 | | 35 | 0 | 15 | 3 | 0 | 0 | | 36 | 4 | 13 | 3 | 0 | 0 | | 37 | 1 | 14 | 4 | 1 | 0 | | 38 | 4 | 10 | 4 | 0 | 0 | | 39 | 2 | 14 | 2 | 2 | 0 | | 40 | 0 | 11 | 9 | 0 | 0 | | 41 | 6 | 7 | 5 | 0 | 0 | | 42 | 5 | 8 | 4 | 1 | 0 | | 43 | 6 | 10 | 2 | 0 | 0 | | 44 | 6 | 9 | 3 | 0 | 0 | | 45 | 9 | 7 | 2 | 0 | 0 | | 46 | 7 | 10 | 1 | 0 | 0 | --- ### First Season a generation appeared in | Gen | Season | |---|---| | Silent | 1 | | Boomers | 1 | | Gen X | 1 | | Millennials | 4 | | Gen Z | 32 | --- ### Last season a generation appeared in (so far) | Gen | Season| |---|---| | Silent | 32 | | Boomers | 39 | | Gen X | 46 | | Millennials | 46 | | Gen Z | 46 | --- ### First season of plurality | Gen | Season | |---|---| | Silent | None | | Boomers | None (almost 12) | | Gen X | 1 | | Millennials | 11 | | Gen Z | 45 | --- ### Number of seasons participated in | Gen | Season Count | |---|---| | Silent | 9 | | Boomers | 36 | | Gen X | 46 | | Millennials | 42 | | Gen Z | 12 | --- ### Total participants | Gen | Participants | |---|---| | Silent | 11 | | Boomers | 115 | | Gen X | 305 | | Millennials | 356 | | Gen Z | 52 | --- ### Miscellaneous * Only Gen X has appeared in every season * Only Season 32 had a representative from all 5 Generations * Seasons 3, 28, 35, and 40 only had 2 Generations represented * Season 33 was "Gen X vs Millennials" but had a Boomer and a Zoomer (by USC Standards) --- ^1^ Generations are arbitrary, inconsistent, and ill defined. I used USCs definitions ^3^ for no particular reason other than I had to pick *something* ^2^ A contestant is counted for each appearance in a season at the age of their appearance in each season. Contestant’s generation was determined by <Year of Filming> minus <Age>. Age and Filming dates were sourced from Wikipedia ^3^ https://libguides.usc.edu/busdem/age

Edit reading: Why Ben will win

I'm not spoiled. I just love reading the edit.. and being wrong most of the time. My theory is that, the editor never show the winner being mean. Kenzie: was mean to Bhanu Liz: was pisseddddd to everyone Mariah: was mean with the rock paper play Before last boot, Q was also not show to be mean to anyone, and was most of a frontrunner than kenzie for me So we"re left with: Ben and Charlie. Since the new Era, the editor try really hard to hide their winner, it seems. Since Charlie is center stage, I suppose he will not win. Plus their are a lot of non strategic scene with Ben and his anxiety. Thoses scenes make no sense if he doesn't win. EDIT: Unless Kenzie win. Which could happen, since the Bhanu scenes are now forgotten What are your prediction before the finale?

Season 45 finale!

We are enjoying the finale so far! Pretty good season but not as many silly people as season 44. Poor Jake has had a hard time. I was so happy when he succeeded at fire making.

Anyone else really excited for Survivor UK?

The first episode of Survivor UK is airing in a bit, very excited to see what they have in stock. Based on interviews it's going to be a lot like Australian Survivor 2016, very light but still modern in terms of strategic gameplay and idols and stuff.

What a waste of an episode

SPOILERS last nights tribal. Like seriously if you want to go home, just go home. Don’t make me think you are going to be part of some big move, then try to win the Oscar at tribal for crying about it.

Who Stood Out To You? https://i.imgur.com/8A8rhPF.jpg

It wasn't surprising to see Brandon go last night and I think Emily is finally starting to play better but Drew was the standout for me. I get the feeling this guy can play a strategic, cutthroat game but has better sense than playing that too soon. Coming clean to the tribe was perfect, it built trust with his alliance and everyone is so skeptical after the one-person excursions that even telling the truth can look like a lie. I think he'll go far in the game. Is Sifu the next Dragon Slayer? He just seems like such a joke though he is entertaining to watch.

I Feel So Bad For Brandon https://i.imgur.com/pNMRjkX.jpg

That poor dude does not seem to have what it takes to play Survivor. He is always gassed out and crying. The only time he wasn't crying is when he was playing therapist to Hannah. Any chance he can turn it around or is he just dead weight until he's voted off?

Anyone Else Remember How Brutal Jeff Used To Be?

I just saw the episode with Na Onka/Purple Kelly quitting Nicaragua and Jeff was sooo mean, I loved it! He is such a friendly dude on the newer seasons with a respectful ear to anyone's woes... but not back in the day. You could see the open disdain on his face to have people quit. Which is your favorite quit?

Immunity Challenge Beasts! www.goldderby.com

![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a6c22120-2683-4c97-bab4-239b740c206c.webp) **Survivor’: Most Immunity Wins in a Single Season** by John Benutty, Misty Holland, Marcus James Dixon July 19, 2023 9:04AM >Over the course of its 44 seasons, “Survivor” has hosted hundreds of immunity challenges where individual players could win the opportunity to save themselves from elimination at tribal council. Since 2000 when the reality TV show began, 15 different contestants have won at least four immunity challenges. However, five of those castaways prevailed five times, a record that has never been broken. In our “Survivor” gallery below, we spotlight those with the most immunity wins in a single season. >Despite four others winning just as many as he did, Colby Donaldson from Season 2 has bragging rights as not only the first player to win five times, but also the only one to do so consecutively. Like Kelly Wiglesworth before him, Colby played the game at a point in time where challenge wins were not held as in high regard as they were later, leaving him in runner-up position to a more social game-focused player in the final vote. The others in Colby’s company with five wins are winner Tom Westman (Season 10), runner-up Ozzy Lusth (Season 13), winner Mike Holloway (Season 30), and runner-up Brad Culpepper (Season 34). >Not only was Kelly (Season 1) the first player to get as many as four wins, she is also the only female to get that many wins consecutively. The only other women to reach that total are winner Jenna Morasca (Season 6), winner Kim Spradlin (Season 24), and runner-up Chrissy Hofbeck (Season 35). >Standing alone as the only player to make the list twice is “Boston Rob” Mariano, who took home four individual wins in both his second time playing (Season 8) where he finished as runner-up and his third playing (Season 22) where he finally won. >The only players to earn four challenge wins without making it to the final tribal council are Joe Anglim (Season 31) who got four consecutively at the start of the merge and Rick Devens (Season 38) who got his final win at top five and then lost the top four fire-making challenge just before the final tribal. >Rounding out the 15 names on our list are winner Fabio Birza (Season 21), runner-up Ken McNickle (Season 33), and winner Tony Vlachos (Season 40), each with four challenge wins. Survivor is coming to Nintendo Switch www.nintendolife.com

![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/68779e0d-1e59-44db-bf16-95768a6e6ff4.jpeg) **Survivor: Castaway Island Makes The Leap From TV Show To Switch Game This October by Jim Norman** >The ratings for Survivor today might not be anything like what they were back in the early 2000s, but that hasn't stopped publisher Microids from getting in on Survivor: Castaway Island — a game based on the once-popular TV show that will be coming to Switch on 3rd October. >Developed by Magic Pockets, Castaway Survivor takes on the same format as the show. You will play as one of 12 contestants, competing in a series of wilderness challenges and befriending campmates to maintain popularity and avoid being voted off. We haven't seen all that much of the game itself so far, but we're imagining that it will consist of a series of minigame-style challenges interjected by some text-based social drama. >While there is not much to see, Microids has shared the following information and limited screenshots about what we can expect from Survivor: Castaway Island: >>In Survivor: Castaway Island, be prepared to experience the ultimate test of survival! As you navigate the treacherous landscape, you'll need to rely on your survival instinct and strategy to remain in the competition. Every decision you make will be crucial to your fate. Are you cunning, strategic, and ruthless enough to outwit, outplay and outlast your opponents? >>During your adventure, look for resources and form alliances with other castaways to survive, but remember that trust is hard to come by in the game of Survivor. Choose your allies wisely and watch your back for betrayals. In team or individual challenges, push yourself to the limit to avoid being voted off the island. >>One wrong move, and the adventure ends. Your survival is at stake, and only the strongest will make it to the end. Do you have what it takes to be the last one standing and become the sole Survivor? >We understand that more information about the game is to come soon, so keep an eye out over the coming months before its release later this year.

Survivor is up for an Emmy!

Survivor Got A Shock Emmy Nomination, And Many Have The Same Theory About Why By Mack Rawden There was perhaps no bigger shock in yesterday’s Emmy nominations than in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category where Survivor earned a nod for the first time in seventeen years. Now and again you might see a long-running show miss for a year and then bounce back the next, but in general, if awards voters decide you’re not one of the cool kids anymore, it takes an act of God to get you back in their good graces. In this case, however, it seems like it was an act of Carolyn. That’s right. Survivor picked up its first major Emmy nomination in almost two decades, and many fans and critics are pointing toward the Tika 3 as the primary reason for it and specifically, Carolyn. The show has always done a good job of casting likable personalities and interesting characters, but Season 44 gave us maybe the most positive, quirky and hopeful cast in the history of the show. That group was led by the so-called Tika 3 of Carolyn Wiger, Carson Garrett and Yam Yam Arocho. The trio of eccentrics formed a close bond and worked together to all make deep runs and in doing so, captured the hearts of many fans who rooted them on. After news of Survivor’s Emmy nomination, many of those involved in the show took to social media to celebrate. Host Jeff Probst hit up his Instagram stories and shared a graphic celebrating the nod. Many former players also got in on the celebration including all three members of the Tika 3, and of course, Survivor fans were happy to see the show recognized too. The recurring theme in a lot of these posts was pointing to the Tika 3 and Carolyn as the reason the perception of the show elevated last season. Carson specifically said the show can thank Carolyn for the nomination. Numerous fans agreed and dropped their own tweets, and even some critics published stories theorizing that the cast was the reason the show is getting so much more positive recognition right now. I agree... [Read full article here](https://www.cinemablend.com/television/survivor-got-a-shock-emmy-nomination-and-many-have-the-same-theory-about-why)

Where Do You Want Survivor To Go Next?

I was gonna post this new Screen Rant article about why Survivor stayed in Fiji for the last few years. It's not a great article but I'll link it below if you want to read it. It got me thinking though, Fiji is beautiful but I kinda miss some of the uglier, harsher environments. Remember Yucatán, when they were so hot but couldn't go in the river because of gators? The rats and snakes from Borneo? Everyone getting sun scorched in Africa? I always enjoyed the harsh environments and seeing the Survivors adapt. My question to you: if you could pick where the next Survivor was played where would it be and why?
