I couldn't click "set" while trying to set the safety network number on a 442g-mab

After using bootp to turn off DHCP and set a static IP, 2 hours later I didn't realize that I also had to turn off DHCP in RSLinx. Thank you fork truck driver for smashing the working one.

Random things learned at the Rockwell Automation fair in Boston

I attended the Rockwell Automation fair in Boston and thought I'd share some of the things I learned. 1. RS Linx and RS 500 will be end of life in 2030. We have a few old MicroLogix and SLC around and have plans for them to be retired or upgraded before then. 2. As of Studio 5000 V35, FTLinx is the default instead of RSLinx. Some newer software only works with FTLinx. 3. If during the pandemic, you bought an Allen-Bradley PLC off eBay or something, it's possible that you got a counterfeit. If you upgrade to V32 firmware, you should get a warning. If you upgrade to V33+, you can permanently brick the counterfeit PLC. Good idea to flash all PLCs to V32 before going any further with firmware upgrades. 4. If you have a Studio 5000 Pro licence, then you have access to the SDK which allows you to automate some Studio 5000 functions like uploading and downloading of the ACD file. In the next release, they plan to have L5X and L5K file access. This potentially opens up making an automated home brew version control where you upload the L5X from the PLC and send it to git where it compares the text with the last version and shows you the changes. I know they sell a version control product (Factorytalk Asset Center), but not every shop wants to fork over that kind of cash.

Why is AVEVA so useless nowadays

Trying to activate an IWS CEView license, but they don't do email support nowadays Accessed their support portal and used the chatbot (which admittedly is quite helpful otherwise) and turns out they closed the IWS topic support Went to the License Activation section and it asked for my serial number or something, instead of the Site Code which I actually do have Some back and forth afterwards the Indusoft distributor advised to email to indusoft.license@aveva.com, which quelle surprise is radio silent thus far Zzz

Kind of crazy they can cram the same technology into point I/O modules. Had to take this guy apart today to move jumpers to change it from -10vdc to 10 vdc range to 0vdc to 10vdc for a system upgrade. Really made me think how convenient new stuff is. Those jumpers are a mouse click in studio 5000. Was a fun experience today working with some old reliable tech mixing with new stuff. This module might be as old as me.

How many of you tune PID loops as part of your regular job tasks?

I've always been fascinated in how the process actually occurs. Is it more or less handled by software these days or are you performing the calculus yourself? What applications are you tuning? Cheers!
