Bandcamp Friday - what I bought. What did you buy?

I’m fortunate enough to be able to support bands by buying their albums. Especially today, when Bandcamp doesn’t take a cut. Here’s my Math rock portion. shikimi by te' - Japanese instrumental post/Math Rock. Busy and fun. More on the rock side of things. Mantles by Layers in Lairs - like Battles and ASIWYFA had a kid. Bearcubbin-related, another new band to me. Girlfriends by Girlfriends - came really recommended. Tappy goodness. Alas, a one-shot. Rosewood by Kaguu - Math/Prog EP that’s upbeat and whimsical.

Chinese Football on US/CA tour in Oct

Didn’t expect to ever see these guys on tour, but they have a handful of dates here. And yes, the name is a play on American Football And Abelia (Dallas support) is great, saw them at Plus Fest. Looks like the support bands are local to their area Music: https://chinesefootball.bandcamp.com/ Article: https://www.brooklynvegan.com/chinese-football-announce-first-ever-north-american-tour/

"Layers In Lairs" - reminds me of Zefs Chasing Cara layersinlairs.bandcamp.com

Parts remind me of Battles, but also Zefs Chasing Cara. Electronic-twinged math-rock.

Math/pop - Orchards orchardslive.bandcamp.com

twinkly math-pop with vocals. Guitar effects sometimes remind me of ASIWYFA. Surprisingly nice.

Octopus Project - Glass Jungle https://youtu.be/V8UvmLF8MEY

I have no idea why this is in my library, but I came across it trying to figure out which artists I listened to qualified as math rock, and these guys sound like a combination of Battles and Legos, at least this track does.

Invalids at Plus Fest (Denton, TX)

Kudos to everyone at @AndysDenton for throwing an amazing day one of Plus Fest. I got to see Cloutchaser, Invalids, Space Corolla, Elders, Abelia, Donella Drive and more! Invalids put on a fantastic show ( I love tappy math rock, and several of the bands met that bar for me - the photo is of some triple-tapping action courtesy of Invalids) but I was super impressed with everyone. If you get the chance next time, do go! It’s a really small venue, great staff, and a lot of heart and hard work. Thanks y’all!

Invalids on tour ( tappy math-rock) www.songkick.com

Just found out a couple of weeks ago that the band Invalids is going on tour starting this week! They are playing the entirety of Eunoia, at least at the show in Denton, Texas. I found them when Permanence came out, so I’m looking forward to it I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the vocals, but it definitely is tappy math-rock, which is my go-to. Hope some of y’all can make the various shows. And the show in Denton also has Clout Chaser, so it ought to be interesting. :)

Challenger Deep by Challenger Deep challengerdeepdude.bandcamp.com

Challenger Deep is an instrumental rock four-piece boy band out of Atlanta, Georgia. Born of a passion for music and a light-hearted camaraderie, they continue to push their creative limits to create music that is both technically interesting and fun to listen to. Drawing on different inspirations, the band’s members incorporate their individual styles cultivated over years of playing into the boundless possibilities that instrumental music has to offer.

New upbeat tappy album - Erin Malone (FFA Pictures of Wild Life) erinmalone.bandcamp.com

I think I found this album due to The Post-Everything Collective monthly round up. Some nice happy(and tappy) instrumental math-rock to start 2024 with.

Well? Math-rock AOTY?

Curious what everyone thinks the top album of the year is. Personally, I found Syncatto, which is the flamenco/math/(metal?) band I didn’t know I needed. I really dug Gabba’s “Recollections”. “Sonorous Faith pt 2” was just as triumphant and joyful as part 1, but maybe that’s post-rock? OH! Night Verses! Unsure if that’s math or djent or what, but hot damn. Shout out to “Oh The Ezekiel”, enjoyable one-man band.

it's too quiet - what mathrock album have you been listening to this week?

Old, new, don’t really care. What’s in heavy rotation for you this week?! I’ve been listening to the tappy suggestions I got last week, and I also found “Dora The Destroyerl which is a nice djent/math/ mix,and I like the new album by Former Animals, but $10 for 17 minutes seems a bit dear (tell me I’m wrong, that’s fine, I feel the same way about Strawberry Girls, too). That said, I’ve bought an EP and album of Syncatto (holy crap I dig me some flamenco rock) and am loving it! Still going through the other suggestions!

request: upbeat tappy math-rock

Trying to find more stuff like Zefs Chasing Cara, standards, LITE, Totorro, Tom’s Story, Syncatto, Gabba. (Maybe invalids would count, too, at least the instrumental version ;). Covet is an obvious. What else? Thanks!

Bandcamp Friday - what are y’all buying (take 2)

Since I think wefwef ate the post… Been doing this a while - save for the month, find some good albums, then buy buy buy. Curious what y’all are buying and what other awesome Math-rock came out this month. * Gabba - Recollections (math) * Arch Echo - Final Pitch (prog metal) * Stuck In November - First Slice of Cake (math; trying to find some thing like Zefs chasing Cara) * Pomegranate Tiger - All Input is Error (prog-metal/djent) * The Chronicles of Father Robin - The Songs & Tales of Airoea, Book 1 (retro prog supergroup! Tons of mellotron. From some of the gang in Tusmørke, Wobbler, Jordsjo)

[new release] Gabba - Recollections gabbasantiago.bandcamp.com

Had no idea who this guy was, just dug the track “Overcurrent” when it was first released. There’s a whole album here now, and he is/was in “Tom’s Story”, which I guess I’ll have to check out next. Nice tapping, enjoyed this. It’s also been too damn quiet in here - there’s only 100 of us, so let’s start sharing more. :)

I was trying to find some new math-rock bands and came across this. There’s also a KEXP performance from Buenos Aires. Definitely some post, and quite a bit of math. Some nice tapping and atmospherics.
