Vendor List

I thought it would be nice to start a list of reputable seed vendors. Please feel free to list any of your favorites. I've broken the list out into U.S. and EU sections, but some U.S. vendors may ship to EU countries, and some EU vendors may ship to the U.S.. If anyone has any good Asia-Pac vendors, I'll add a third section. #U.S. - [White Hot Peppers](https://www.whitehotpeppers.com/) - [Jimmy Pickles](https://jppepperseeds.com/) - [Chileplants.com](https://www.chileplants.com/) - [Towns-end Chili & Spice](https://towns-endchiliandspice.com/) - [Puckerbutt Pepper Company](https://puckerbuttpeppercompany.com/collections/seeds) - [Matt's Peppers](https://www.mattspeppers.com/) - [Refining Fires](https://www.superhotchiles.com/) - [Sandia Seed Company](https://www.sandiaseed.com/) #EU - [Semillas La Palma](https://www.semillas.de/) - [Vertiloom](https://vertiloom.be/) - [Sea Spring Seeds](https://seaspringseeds.co.uk/) - [South Devon Chilli Farm](https://southdevonchillifarm.co.uk/) - [Suttons](https://www.suttons.co.uk/) While I don't want to invite "name and shame" over bad experiences, I do want to call out one vendor that has earned a lot of notoriety. **Pepper Joe** is one of the most popular seed vendors, largely due to having excellent search engine placement. However, the original owner sold it long ago, and pepper communities are **FILLED** with people who bought seeds from them only to have them grow into something completely different (typically common habaneros). [We have a discussion thread specifically for Pepper Joe's](https://lemmy.world/post/201113). My recommendation is to NOT buy from Pepper Joe's, ever.

Meet my 5 year old Tabasco - I already killed her 2 times - just gave her a new chance at live

Grew her 2019 from seed. She flowered a little late so I took her to my office, where I have a perfect nice south facing office. She produced a ton of peppers. Then I "killed" her (cut her of way down, leaving her no leaves at all) and left her. 2 weeks later she came back. So I started giving her water and nutrients. She grew back and gave (less) peppers in 2020. As I have been on and off in the office (guess we all know why) she wasn't treated as she deserved. At the end of the year, I "killed" her again. She came back again. So I gave her water. I gave her way too little nutrients (I hardly ever was at the office, she was mostly watered by a colleague), I never repotted her. I feel like a monster. She didn't produce peppers. Then suddenly in the fall of 2023 she produced 3 proud little peppers. So, I finally decided to take her back home and just repotted her in a nice, bigger pot and gave her the nutrients and fresh dirt (after 5 years...) she desperatly needed. I am somewhat exited what she will do this year.

What is everyone growing this year?

This year I'm growing chiltepin, habanero, pablano, gochugary, and Thai. The chiltepins are tiny but I really love them. I'm hoping to get enough this year to pickle a small batch.

Suggest a must try pepper...

We grow all of our vegetables and since few years we started growing spicy peppers as well. Our most beloved ones at this point are Habanero and some sort of regular looking Mexican chili pepper brought to us by a friend who was there on a business trip. I personally fell in love with Habanero because of its fruity notes. It's not a pepper I eat fresh often but we make a nice sweet sauce from it that is used way too much in our household. As am preparing slowly for the next season, I'd love to hear some suggestions on what I should try next. I'd prefer to try peppers with some characteristic taste. I already have my eyes set on Aji Lemon, Sugar Rush Peach, Golden Nuggets. We prefer medium spicy peppers but I've had hotter. I just dislike hot for the sake of hot.

Anyone else going for an indoor crop over winter?

Nothing too much to see yet, look pretty typical when they're 4 weeks old from seed. I added another 510 watts of LED lighting over black Friday. I will build a little table to get them elevated and have it be a drain table. Once they get large there is no way I can move them around my house. This solves moving them with also allowing them to drain during watering. So far I have from- ***Round 1 germination:*** Death Spiral Carolina Reaper Dragon's Breath Apocalypse Chocolate Romanian Sweet White Moruga Scorpion ***Round 2 germination -*** Scotch Bonnet West Indies Red Hab Sugar Rush Peach Chocolate 7 pot ***Round 3 waiting for shipping:*** Black Panther Bahamian Goat Hallows Eve Scotch Brain Red Pink Tiger BBG7 Growing the plants in Fox Farms Ocean Forest and using FF Grow Big for vegetative growth stage.

What can I do with Jalapenos to conserve them for 6 months or so?

Its winter where I live so I reckon that the time was come to pick all my jalapenos. What sauce or pickles recipes do you have? I was thinking of just freezing them because I dont have any better ideas and I cant find any appealing recipes.

My first harvest

Hi, I'm very proud of this first harvest from 3 plants. There are still quite a lot of unripe peppers left. It was my first time growing them starting from seeds, and I'm really happy with the results and everything I learned on the way. As expected they are pretty spicy. I think they could be habaneros but I'm not sure. I'm interested if anyone has abetter guess. I already posted a picture of the plants [a few weeks ago](https://lemmy.world/post/3697915) in this community.

Help identifiny this hot pepper.

As the title suggests I'm curious what this pepper can be. It is very fruity at first bite and then the heat ignites your whole mouth. The plant was very leafy for the first month and then the white flowers came. The photo shows the pepper after about 2.5 weeks after the flowers came. Thanks in advance

Can you identify those?

Hey, I'm growing these guys from seeds I got from store bought peppers. In my country they usually don't specify the variety for hot pepper but I think it could be some habaneros. Any experts here able to confirm or having better guesses ?

Any ideas why are the tips of my cayenne peppers black?

The black part is not soft and they seem to grow so I don't think they are rotting.

My hydroponic habanero experiment

This is one of two habanero plants I started as an experiment a couple months ago. This one has about 40 peppers growing on it right now and a ton of open flowers. It spent most of its time in a tent, but I brought it outside about a month ago, and it's taking quite a liking to real sunshine.

Sick pepper plant

Do any of you fine people know what might be going on here? Leaves are falling like crazy and the frankly looks sick. The plant did have aphids for a bit but that is taken care of now. The problem began before I noticed the aphids and has continued now that they are gone. I fear the poor thing may be dying. Sorry if the image orientation is off. what to do with burnt leaves?

Like the title says. My plant has some burnt leaves, not sure due to the sun or too much nutrition. Either way, the four of five biggest leaves of this plant are like this. I recon they still provide the plant with energy so I should leave them on? Or should I remove them? What are your thoughts.

I paid for 50 seeds from PuckerbuttPepperCo, and I got a lot more.

They went into the germination chamber today. Ideally I get 5 of each out of the 10 seeds from each pack I used today.

A poblano from last year

Poblanos are probably my favorite peppers to grow. Very mild heat, but tons of flavor, and fantastic for rellenos or enchiladas. [Image description: close up of a large green poblano pepper on the plant]

It’s not much, but my garden is living off VERY minimal effort from me this year. Hoping to upgrade my setup next year with better soil, but they still seem to be surviving at least! Tomatoes seem to be thriving in the carotas tic soil I gave them (not shown) One more bonus pic: ![](https://i.imgur.com/bMyDFBC.jpg) Post your own setups here if you don’t mind!!

Pepper Joe

Given how many "Pepper Joe'd" stories filled the Facebook and Reddit communities, I thought it might be a good idea to address this right off the bat. Pepper Joes is a seed vendor that has been around for many years, and ranks right at the top for some popular search terms. Legend has it that at one point they were a reputable seed seller, but the original owner sold the business many years ago. The current owners apparently outsource their supply from a variety of third-party growers, and their quality control is non-existent. Many people ordering from them receive seeds, grow them, and eventually find out that the seeds are not at all what they ordered. Most frequently they wind up being a pretty standard habanero, but random superhots or unknown crosses are also fairly common. Other pepper communities have seen so many posts from people complaining that the seeds they bought from Pepper Joe's didn't grow true that it has become a meme. There are many reports of their customer service getting argumentative with customers, refusing to acknowledge any responsibility or to issue refunds, although this doesn't seem universal. Buy from them at your own risk.

How do you germinate your seeds? puckerbuttpeppercompany.com

I have always been a paper towel and warm area kind of person, but Puckerbutt goes in a different direction with a tea soak and then planting in soiless medium until they sprout. I don't really have the luxury of planting seeds that may never sprout in my limited space so I am thinking of sticking with the paper towel method.

Looking for indoor LED grow lights? Here is some on sale. https://www.superbrightleds.com/led-residential-lighting/led-grow-lights

The email sign up code (unique to each email) will apply to the sale price for the LED units. My two 45w panels had been having power issues from pretty continuous use for years and it was time to upgrade them for the season. Grabbed the 260w. Flat rate shipping was $10 + tax so my unit was $216 shipped w/ code. I have ordered from this company a few times and they have been great to work with.

What fertilizer do you use? Anyone using Fox Farms?

Looking to upgrade my nutrient regime for my indoor setup and was considering Fox Farms. If you use FF, which one are you using? Grow Big is a 6-4-4, Tiger Bloom is 2-8-4, Big Bloom is 0-.5-.7 Have you needed to supplement with cal- mag? https://foxfarm.com/product-category/liquid-fertilizers Thinking of using Happy Frog potting soil in conjunction with their liquid fertilizers https://foxfarm.com/product/happy-frog-potting-soil
