What's with American firefighters obsession with ventilation before fire control is achieved?

We seem to keep seeing videos of US firefighters ventilating before they have fire control and either having a near miss, getting injured or dying.

Any Left from center Firefighters out there? Am I the only one?

The overwhelming majority of my department and most in my area are very Right and far right politically. To each their own, I always steer away from political conversations at station. I always found it funny because their politics actively go against their own wages and benefits.
