Take a look at my guide on ecospheres! ecosphere-guide.pages.dev

Been ages in the making, really proud of how this turned out. It's still a little WIP but I would love to hear some feedback!

Never Did Identify the Owner of the Trail in the Jar!

This photo is from almost 6 years ago, the jar on the right is still sealed today and thriving! Will post a current pic when there's some good light.

Also not really an ecosphere but I hope it's still allowed.

Feel free to discuss and ask me anything.

Sea scud waiting for food

Scuds are still alive in my seacosphere. They're just waiting for food in their self-made tunnels until some tiggerpods come by. You can just watch them hunting since there are hundreds of tiggerpods in there.

Paludarium 1.5 years old (opened sometimes)

I don't know if there is anything alive outside of the water but it looks healthy and smells like forest.

Scud in seacosphere

Two weeks ago, I put some scuds in my seacosphere. They built tunnels and feed on dead plants/algae.

My two ecosphere's barely holding onto life. Small - 3 yrs old, large 5 - years old.

I started both these from leftovers from other aquascaping projects just to see what would happen. Both have had major die off both in clean up crew and plants but are somehow still trudging along. The small one has some algae, hair moss, and (surprisingly) an anubias petit nana hanging onto life. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/28a9f6ad-7e63-40d7-9375-2e408bda565b.jpeg) My large one has had almost complete die off's and only a single plant has survived that I have not quite been able to identify. Looks like some sort of microsword. I glued some cheap USB powered LED's into the lid before sealing off the whole thing with some silicone. I don't run them very often, pretty much just on the weekends, but I'm still surprised they have lasted as long as they have. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/7f0412a7-be57-4ebc-8805-d3730cf21060.jpeg)

Sealed 5 gal aquarium - 6 years old

This started out life as an aquascaping tank with various types of shrimp and a dwarf lobster. Life happened and I was no longer able to keep up with trimming the various plants and it went crazy. Eventually I gave up and after the Lobster died I decided to convert it to a closed system just to see what would happen and taped the lid shut to prevent evaporation. Much to my surprise it has been going really strong. There has been a couple of die offs when moving to different parts of the country but it bounces back pretty quickly. Much better than my other two ecosphere's. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/fa120328-b529-4b14-abf5-9c05e00aed70.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/adf76fc1-4dea-4a4f-b3e8-a5af0be22e1b.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/42f6596d-cfe6-4bf6-8198-a077e42f8716.jpeg)

Seacosohere >3.0% salinity

![IMG_20231010_171602_117](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/9822eba8-523a-45dd-aac7-a1617a856df2.jpeg) Full of life. Worms, tiny copepods and a few snails. It's around two months old. I put the snails in there one month ago and they look healthy. Some parts of the algae (Caluerpa) are dead but it's growing fast. I hope so much for the snails to lay eggs. Edit: it already survived temperatures above 30°C so it seems to be pretty stable so far.

Seacosphere full of life

These tiny red dots are Tiggerpods. This jar feels more alive than some of my freshwater ecospheres.

Brine shrimp with eggs?

Not sure if these white balls are eggs. Idk there are many ecosphere communities now bit maybe mander.xyz is the best since it is related to biology.
