In 1956, the US Air Force contracted British aircraft manufacturer AVRO to create a 'Flying Disc' in a secret program titled "USAF Project 1794." [Declassified and sourced from the National Archives.]

Project 1794, dated 06-01-1956, was discovered by Michael Rhodes, an archivist for the National Archives who is the last person in the chain which archives previously classified government documents. [[1]](https://www.archives.gov/news/articles/do-records-show-proof-of-ufos) This was a research aircraft being developed between the US Air Force (USAF) and contracted out to British aircraft manufacturer AVRO Aircraft, responsible for the development of multiple war planes and missiles, operating from 1910 to 1963. [[2]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro) It is clearly stated in the Project 1794 report that AVRO attempted to construct the unconventional, top secret aircraft displayed in Fig. 4. [[3]](https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/70/9207/6920770/content/arcmedia/dc-metro/rg-342/6919785-r-d-project-files/project-1794-ufo/1794.pdf) The report contains detailed accounts of how the scale models and components were created and tested in wind turbine chambers. It specifically states in the report the ARVO contractors' intent to go forward in constructing the first prototype aircraft of this design, as according to their contract.
